Good question. The explanatory note accompanying the act appears to indicate that the disqualification applied only to clergy ordained by a bishop, which Paisley, as a Presbyterian, presumably was not. That's my best guess on this issue. 86.136.0.145 20:54, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

Devolved legislatures

Reference to removal of disqualification from Scottish Parliament and Welsh Assembly and Northern Ireland Assembly is incorrect. Section 16(1)(b) of the Scotland Act 1998 already provided that a person is not disqualified from membership of the Parliament "merely because .. he has been ordained or is a minister of any religious denomination." . Similar provision in section 13(1)(b) of the Government of Wales Act 1998 and 36(6)(b) of the Northern Ireland Act 1998--George Burgess 20:33, 19 April 2006 (UTC)

The David Cairns article you linked to says that he was her research assistant before he became an MP. As he was her assistant, this would logically have made her David's boss. Road Wizard 21:04, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
