A fact from Hong Kong acid attacks appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know column on 24 May 2009 (check views). The text of the entry was as follows:
|
"South East Asia"
edit"(throwing objects from buildings is a problem in several areas of Southeast Asia)"
I find that this phrase to be irrelevant, since last time I checked, Hong Kong was situated in East Asia? Correct me if I'm wrong..?
--Platinum inc (talk) 19:47, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
- Well, personally I'm not adverse to include parts of southern china in the definition. Most (usually a bit oblique. I could swear it used to be covered on wp:, but I couldn't find it) references I remember are about Singapore. Circeus (talk) 20:02, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
- So are you saying that Hong Kong shouldn't be included in East Asia? Or perhaps it should be included in South East Asia? --Platinum inc (talk) 17:55, 22 May 2009 (UTC)
- That's beside the point. You have a better idea for a formulation? Circeus (talk) 20:07, 22 May 2009 (UTC)
- But South East Asia and this acid attack have no links. If they were linked attacks, then this would definitely be relevant, but since they are not, I see no reason in including it. Furthermore, the bracketed phrase seems to be awkwardly thrown in, in a casual manner, not even matching the base sentence. I suggest removing the reference to South East Asia or starting a new sentence in regards to it.--Platinum inc (talk) 17:27, 24 May 2009 (UTC)
- There is a direct connection as it serves as useful background information regarding an additional argument put forward regarding the installation of camera. This argument sounds silly unless you are aware of the frequency with which the thing occurs across the region. Circeus (talk) 18:49, 24 May 2009 (UTC)
- "A month after the attack, Yau Tsim Mong District Council voted to install four CCTV cameras in various areas with the specific aim of deterring litter-hurling in general (throwing objects from buildings is a problem in several areas of Southeast Asia) "
- I find this to be misleading, Hong Kong is not in South East Asia. --Platinum inc (talk) 21:35, 24 May 2009 (UTC)

Not acid but alkali
editThe attacks involved drain cleaner (Sodium Hydroxide) which is not an acid but alkali. Therefore, it is more appropriate to rename as Mong Kok alkali atttack. --219.79.41.44 (talk) 02:53, 12 July 2009 (UTC)
- Without a source for the information, this is pointless. Are you sure yoU,re not confusing it with the Tsuen Wan incident, which did involve drain cleaner? Circeus (talk) 19:17, 12 July 2009 (UTC)
Coverage of latest attack
editHello. The last section is a bit of an anti-climax. Can we improve it please? Also, there is no mention of an episode in Causeway Bay, which is referenced in the BBC article. 220.100.104.166 (talk) 22:53, 25 September 2011 (UTC)
