makes no sense

"asserts that Italians working on Hog Island introduced the sandwich, by putting various meat, cheese, and lettuce between two slices of bread. This became known as the "Hog Island" sandwich; hence, the "hoagie"."[1]"

This theory looks like nonsense, a "hoagie" is not made with "slices" of bread, in any normal sense of the word slices.Eregli bob (talk) 09:45, 5 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Unfortunately, the only source in this article does say "slices of bread" (which, obviously, is not how hoagies are currently made). I've reworded the section a bit (to avoid a potential copyvio issue), added a link to the article and a wikilink for the Navy Yard. All that said, the only ways to improve the issue you've noted would be to demonstrate that the source is not reliable (IMO it is reliable) or add additional sources to clarify.
At present, Hoagie redirects to Submarine_sandwich#Hoagie. You might want to take a look there for anything that might be helpful. - SummerPhD (talk) 17:18, 5 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
