Confusing Ancient Israelites with "Jews"
editthis article unfortunately does not distinguish between "Jews" ( modern or historical people identifiying as part of the ancient Tribe of Judah) and the Ancient Israelites, the other 10 northern tribes, who formed their own kingdom and were the ones who assimilated with the Canaanites/ Phoenicians and thus were among the Carthaginians. Calling those people "Jews" is inappropriate since they were not of the Tribe of Judah, and not called Jews at that time. To do so now is to revise actual factual history and make it incorrect and false and rather politicised. They most likely did however maintain some Israelite customs as evidenced by artifacts. These Israelite customs were partially similar to those kept by today's descendants of the tribes of Judah, benjamin, and a few lines of others such as Levi. They of course did not have the rabbinical literature that was composed by Rabbis after that time and which is used by Jews of today. Instead these assimilated Israelite Tribes of Canaan,( and other diaspora members) blended with pagans and thier religions and customs in ancient times, just as prophesied. The Northern 10 Tribes are not easily or obviously identifiable today as such. They blended in with several nations and lost thier separate identity to a great degree. That is why they are called "the lost Tribes". there's a lot of research and discussion, disagreement and theorizing about the lost tribes, here is just one reference of many. [1]

Two Possible Carthages
editIn Spain, there was a large Carthaginian colony, and a city that's called today, "Cartagena" which could be a second Carthage mentioned by ancient writers, as opposed to the African one. I think it's important to make sure which one these ancient sources were referring to, if indeed this is a possibility. Many ancient Israelites and Jews were sent to Spain by the Diasporas, and before that there may have been Israelite trading settlements there ( not necessarily of the tribe of Judah ( Jews) but perhaps some). Also, to say that ancient Carthage corresponds with Tarshish, is really not proven, it is conjecture, and other cities have been postulated which sound more likely. [1] [2] [3]
