Scope
edit@Kanguole, do you think it would be appropriate to have the scope of this history article be of linguae francae throughout Chinese history? I think that may be the most useful. Remsense诉 03:22, 22 February 2024 (UTC)
- The title suggests that the topic is the history of Standard Chinese, which would be from the early 20th century. A section on historical background would be useful, but the codification of Standard Chinese was radically different from anything that was done before. Kanguole 11:03, 22 February 2024 (UTC)
- Do you think the expanded scope would be worth moving this article for, e.g. History of standard forms of Chinese? Remsense诉 11:08, 22 February 2024 (UTC)
- I'm not sure that would be a coherent topic. Is there any literature that picks this out as a topic? After all, there weren't any standardization efforts before the early 20th century.
- The codification of Standard Chinese on the other hand, is a well-defined topic, and the focus of quite a bit of literature. Kanguole 13:10, 23 February 2024 (UTC)
- I'm sure if there's anything to it, I would find it during my research—status quo for now, happily Remsense诉 13:12, 23 February 2024 (UTC)
