SPA account

edit

I just reverted the drastic edits of an SPA (likely COI from the ID) account which tried to make the article an advertisement for the subject organization. Does this page need to have protection added? RobP (talk) 03:21, 30 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

I just requested page protection: Wikipedia:Requests for page protection/Increase RobP (talk) 04:19, 30 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
And I requested it also - I didn't notice this post. Thanks for keeping an eye on this page - looks like the organization just realized that the page exists. And sent over someone to "repair" the page. The errors that were created as this person attempted to edit were multi. Sgerbic (talk) 05:19, 30 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Category:Alternative medicine

edit

I removed this article from Category:Alternative medicine with the rationale that this top level category was too broad and non-defnining. As I was reverted by User:Rp2006, I now explain here. This is an article on an organization that is known for anti-vaccination and COVID-19-realted protests. It also has some vague ties to alternative medicine: according to the illustrious David Gorski its website is "chock full of all manner of quackery". This article is not about medicine, alternative or otherwise. The explanatory text of Category:Alternative medicine reads:

Alternative encompasses methods used in both complementary medicine and alternative medicine, known collectively as complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). These methods are used in place of ("alternative to"), or in addition to ("complementary to"), conventional medical treatments. The terms are primarily used in the western world, and include several traditional medicine techniques practiced throughout the world.
If you add something to this category it should also be added to list of forms of alternative medicine.

I maintain this article does not warrant placement in this category. An Idaho-based anti-vaccine/pro parental choice organization seems out of place in a top-level category along with Herbal medicine, Traditional Chinese medicine, and Neural therapy. I'll grant the possibility that it might be appropriate in Category:Alternative medicine organizations, or maybe even Category:Alternative medicine activists, if reliable sources commonly and consistently refer to it as such. Categories should always be appropriate and thoughtfully applied, even for (especially for) subjects which are controversial. They should not be dumping bins to stow loosely related subjects. --Animalparty! (talk) 03:55, 3 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
