Date of death discrepancy

edit

Kurt Gänzl's encyclopedia says Bolton died 6-Sep-1979. IMDb and IBDB say 5-Sep-1979. The NYTimes obit, dated 6-Sep-1979, says Bolton died Tuesday which was 4-Sep-1979. --Joseph Hewes (talk) 16:07, 22 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

The Times obit says 4 Sept, as does Who's Who. Tim riley (talk) 11:55, 8 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Birth year discrepancy

edit

Bolton's birth year is widely reported as 1884, but some sources say 1882. Various obits say he was both 94 and 96 years old at the time of his death. Ancestry.com has records with a variety of birth years from 1880 to 1884, some differing ones apparently in his own hand. Most credibly, perhaps, there is a record for "Guy Bolton, age 8, of Charlton Marshall, Dorset; born Broxbourne, Hertfordshire" in the 1891 English census and a US Social Security death record which gives date of birth 23-Nov-1882. --Joseph Hewes (talk) 05:12, 23 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Where the subject gives multiple birth dates, the earlier one is almost always correct. Ah. Vanity! I agree that the 1891 census record is the most persuasive. 1882 it is. -- Ssilvers (talk) 14:14, 8 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Templates

edit

You could have a Guy Bolton template here, but not templates for his individual works. -- Ssilvers (talk) 19:15, 8 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

All things considered, I agree with this. Imagine the number of "individual works" templates piling up under Mozart's article! Keep the templates to the specific article, I think. And, if I may pile a further wet blanket on, I'd much prefer the templates to appear collapsed, for opening by them as are interested. Reduces clutter, you know. Poem about Bolton and Wodehouse and Kern

It is based on Baseball's Sad Lexicon. See this. Should we mention this? -- Ssilvers (talk) 00:48, 11 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Fine with me, for one, if it is properly cited. I removed it because it wasn't, but if it can be then by all means. Tim riley talk 22:16, 11 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
