HAZ?

edit

What does HAZ on his uniform stand for? Maybe something to add in the article? Morhange (talk) 23:10, 15 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

I don’t have a proper source, but one theory is that H is for Hernández (his maternal surname), A for Aitor (his son’s name) and Z for Zaira (his daughter’s name). –Kooma (di algo) 13:29, 16 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

GUTIerrez HernAndeZ —Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.122.106.48 (talk) 02:14, 25 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

HAZ is also an abbrevation in Turkish language for "Hazreti" or "Hazretleri" (a holy title equivalent of "their highness") in Islam. The title is generally used before (or rarely after) the names of prophets in Kuran, as in "Haz. Muhammed" (Hazreti Muhammed). When Guti came to Turkey, he has been frequently referred as "Hazreti Guti" or "Guti Hazretleri" by some Turkish media and especially by the famous BJK supporter group Carsi, using that phonetic resemblance. Maybe that could be mentioned as well.--Remytraitor (talk) 10:43, 4 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

"Suspension"

edit

I'm not so sure Guti was "suspended". He may have been... exiled, internally, but in football a "suspension" typically means a player is officially barred from playing. Guti could have played. Pellegrini simply chose not to play him.

The Marca article cited does say that Guti was "ousted" - however, if you read it, it simply says that Guti was fit to play, but was not chosen for the squad. He may indeed have been deliberately kept on the sidelines - but suspended? Gt607 (talk) 07:18, 4 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I think it’s a wrong choice of word. Also, for most of the time (starting with the Racing match on November 21) the reason, at least the official reason, for him being out of the match day squad was an injury. That makes 4 matches out due to a ”technical decision” as they call it in Spain and 8 due to an injury (see calendar). While many might argue that he wasn’t really injured, we shouldn’t make our own assumptions here in Wikipedia. –Kooma (di algo) 13:38, 4 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Personal life

edit

The "Personal life" section contain some weird reference to a hiphop star. Is that relevant? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.228.149.113 (talk) 21:32, 10 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Page name

edit

I renamed the page, but was told to revert my (good) change for lack of having started a discussion. I am sorry for that mistake, but GUTI HERNÁNDEZ is a name/nickname compound, so hardly encyclopedical i think. GUTI (FOOTBALLER), or GUTI (SPANISH FOOTBALLER) is more accurate.

Attentively - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 17:36, 7 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Please see WP:COMMONNAME. The long and short of it is that we choose article titles generally by the common name in English that used for a subject that is reflected in reliable English sources. Is this the common name or is it something else?--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 18:13, 7 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

We don't have to use the correct spanish family name as this is the english wikipedia, Laura Chinchilla was a recent request to move as the name was and is not a correct spanish name, it was kept after a move request discussion on the talkpage. The Guti tag is as I am aware a fans nickname and the Guti Hernandez name does seem to get a fair result from search results. Perhaps adding the request {{movereq}} to get more comments would be good. I am not a fan of the single name, lowest common denominater approach, we could move most footballers under such titles, Rooney, Beckham, we commonly refer to most footballers by a single name but a redirect is imo a better approach than moving the article to a single word nickname. Off2riorob (talk) 19:43, 7 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

  • Was merely referring to the poor display of the actual title (half real name, half nickname - and what about Bebeto, for example, why is he allowed to stay that way?). To avoid a single name title, it could be moved to José María Gutiérrez, with or without the "footballer" afterwards. - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 20:57, 7 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
  • Also, ROB, with all due respect, why do you keep saying the player/person's name was created by fans when you are not 100% sure? This should "suffer" a deeper investigation - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 20:59, 7 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
His nickname is Guti and his real name is José María Gutiérrez; the article should be placed at either Guti (footballer) or José María Gutiérrez. I have no real preference. GiantSnowman 21:12, 7 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
OK, in that case I would support José María Gutiérrez as the article title but I could be in the minority. Off2riorob (talk) 21:19, 7 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
  • Nice input STRU. I'll proceed to move page again to GUTI (FOOTBALLER) (or ask an admin to do so), please message me (any of you) if it is too early to do so (although i feel STRU's approach was 100% better than my best one would have been :) ) - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 15:01, 8 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
Yes please wait for a few more comments. Thanks. Off2riorob (talk) 15:02, 8 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Not yet. The most recent piece on Besiktas' website is http://www.bjk.com.tr/tr/haberler.php?k_id=2&h_no=17792 , dated 15 July, which according to Google translate says talks have begun, not that he's signed. Goal.com isn't a reliable source for transfer completion. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 07:53, 16 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Sign a contract? official?

edit

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=810155&sec=transfers&cc=5739 this isn't strong enough to announce an official contract signing, has anyone got anything stronger? Off2riorob (talk) 14:43, 25 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

there is nothing on the official website http://www.bjk.com.tr/en/haberler.php?h_no=2806

Hello again :) he said in the press conference that he is evaluating the offer from Besiktas, but he hasn't signed anything with any club yet. First he has to end his contract with madrid (this will happen this week, maybe tomorrow). XavierHD (talk) 21:55, 25 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi Xavier, nice to see you again, you are well I hope. Thanks. Wiki is so amusing sometimes, I woke up this morning and Guti was a fully fledged Bekitas player with his name on the Bekitas template and on the Bekitas main article and then I have a look around and he is reported to be thinking about an offer, now.. he may well accept but until he does we should not report it. Users should remember that we are a long term established content encyclopedia not a breaking news report. Off2riorob (talk) 22:00, 25 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Besiktas have signed former Real Madrid midfielder Guti on a free transfer, the Turkish club revealed in a club statement on Monday.

The 33-year-old has signed a two-year contract with his annual wages set at €2.7 million (£2.25m). http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2885/europe/2010/07/26/2042959/official-turkish-club-besiktas-sign-former-real-madrid —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.219.128.155 (talk) 16:59, 26 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

The only sources that i belive are always the official websites of the teams. By the way, he signed today with besiktas http://www.bjk.com.tr/tr/ but i barely can understand turkish with google hehe, i will put that on the article. XavierHD (talk) 18:25, 26 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Appearances and goals

edit

It is being reported as 442 appearances and 77 goals for real, our figures differ from this, is anyone have citations to the actual figures. Off2riorob (talk) 16:32, 25 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

It’s actually 542 appearances, there’s a breakdown at the club website: Los números del 14. Looks like we are missing the stats of the ”other” competitions (Intercontinental Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, Supercopa de España). –Kooma (talk) 17:52, 25 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the links, perhaps someone who is good with stats could correct ours in the article supported by this citation. Off2riorob (talk) 22:02, 25 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Edit request from 59.101.86.45, 3 August 2010

edit

{{editsemiprotected}} Guti spent 15 years at Real Madrid, not 25 years as per the article. The article states (last paragraph under "Club Career" "On 25 July 2010, Guti left Madrid after nearly 25 years of service for the club". This should read "On 25 July 2010, Guti left Madrid after nearly 15 years of service for the club". The quoted reference# 5 also states he spend 15 years. 59.101.86.45 (talk) 13:00, 3 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

15 years in the first team, 25 (or so) as a whole. –Kooma (talk) 13:53, 3 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Yes, he started there as a nine year old, but we do have to follow that citation or fine another one that supports our comment, as it is it should be changed to reflect the citation which says, a 15-year professional career with Real Madrid. The 33-year-old made his debut in December 1995, having joined as a nine-year-old. Off2riorob (talk) 15:01, 3 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Turkish Cup

edit

Hey mates, I'm not a template expert. I've seen that it's still "Fortis Turkey Cup" at Guti's cap stats. It used to be Fortis (bank) due to the sponsorship reasons. This season (2010-11) it has been changed Ziraat after an other bank. So, could anyone update it as "Ziraat Turkey Cup", please? Umi1903 (talk) 10:07, 5 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

– This Guti is clear WP:PRIMARYTOPIC in terms of page views by a longshot, and the main "Guti" as the next most popular options (Franklin Gutiérrez and Ezekiel Guti) are better known by their full names. Also, current disambiguator doesn't work, as there's a couple other Spanish footballers by the name. Also holds long-term significance compared to the other options, pageviews over last 5 years for reference: Pageviews.
