GuerreroGuerrero (state) — In order to disambiguate - Guerrero has many several entities like Washington as disambiguation page, see Guerrero (disambiguation). That means the said disambiguated page will likely move to Guerrero. ApprenticeFan work 14:43, 30 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

  • Oppose This is clearly the primary topic. There may be a whole load of links on the disambiguation page, but the only one likely to rival the state is (just about possibly) the Spanish film, which is already disambiguated. This is not really analagous to Washington, where there is a difficulty determining the primary topic between the city, the president, and the state. Skinsmoke (talk) 15:30, 30 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
  • Withdrawn as right now. I should not request the page-move article, Skinsmoke is truly right. ApprenticeFan work 06:09, 31 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

The sentence stating that "civilize...the native peoples" has undeniably bigoted connotations, language to be expected in the recesses of the dark net not in a website that supposedly harbours ambitions of being taken seriously as reputable encyclopedia.

Infobox flag RFC

Should this article have a flag inside the infobox? There is a discussion about it at WikiProject Mexico, where you can join and discuss it. (CC) Tbhotch 20:30, 17 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Anti-Black racism is subtle but ubiquitous.

edit

Point 1 on Anti-Black Racism. This proceeding quote from the article on the Afro-Mexican population is totally preposterous. How is it at all possible, in any way, shape or form, to determine 500 years ago, that NO OTHER conquistadors were infected with smallpox during the conquest?? And ONLY an African was 'responsible' for transmitting the disease to Mexico?? We know that 'disease warfare' was used by the Spanish in siege warfare. Why would it be the 'Christianized' African then, who is mentioned in this article as being responsible for introducing smallpox to Mexico?

"The slave of another conquistador, Pánfilo de Narváez, has been blamed for the transmission of smallpox to Nahuas in 1520. Early slaves were likely personal servants or concubines of their Spanish masters, who had been brought to Spain first and came with the conquistadors.[16][21]"

Point 2 on Anti-Black Racism

So, we are to trust a Franciscan, who was more then likely gaining enormous wealth through enslaving Indigenous peoples, was involved in the brutal Encomienda system, and then mentions the brutality of the Africans? This article thus shows no balance as no mention is made at all, as far as a quick look has determined, of Afro-Indigenous alliance and resistance to slavery. Could it be that the 'Black overseers' were forced to behave in such a manner? After all, it is fact said African's were stolen, chained and shipped to the Western Hemisphere...would that not be an example of terror induced 'criminality' at the hands of the Spanish? Both Indigenous, African and Europeans in the slave trade were equally behaving like heroes AND like demons. But yet this article is sure to mention the brutality of the Africans, without-out showing the obvious ally-ship that would of occurred between African and Indigenous enslaved peoples. This is a major problem with Wikipedia in general, ESPECIALLY when it comes to denying Afro-Indigenous inter-mixture, cultural formation and ethnogenesis. It's all Anti-Black racism without full and complete balance.

"Franciscan Toribio de Benavente Motolinia (1482-1568), who arrived in Mexico in 1524 to evangelize the Nahuas, considered blacks the "Fourth Plague" (in the manner of Biblical plagues) on Mexican Indians. He wrote "In the first years these black overseers were so absolute in their maltreatment of the Indians, over-loading them, sending them far from their land and giving them many other tasks that many Indians died because of them and at their hands, which is the worst feature of the situation."[22] In Yucatán, there were regulations attempting to prevent blacks presence in indigenous communities.[23] In Puebla, 1536 municipal regulations attempted to prevent blacks from going into the open-air market tianguis and harming indigenous women there, mandating fines and fifty lashes in the plaza.[24] In Mexico City in 1537, a number of blacks were accused of rebellion. They were executed in the main plaza (zócalo) by hanging, an event recorded in an indigenous pictorial and alphabetic manuscript.[25]" My input is meant to be on the talk page only, and not part of the main articleHubarde (talk) 21:42, 21 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
