Strangely Narky Blert is correct in pointing out that "Govt." is used. Mizoram schools and colleges have the habit of contracting "Government" in this way, for reasons unknown. So the full name is always "Government...". The full "Government Champhai College" is used in the official documents such as the last National Assessment and Accreditation Council report (see this). @Chhandama: Which form is the WP:COMMONNAME? There's also good guidance at WP:OFFICIALNAMES. I still agree that some sort of name change is necessary. I think that both "Govt." and "Government" are needed, with the less common name redirecting to the other. You are the expert here: I will accept whichever name you think best.

(I wasn't too surprised to find that Mizo Wikipedia doesn't seem to exist. In my experience, the Wikipedia in every single language of the Subcontinent is in terrible shape; which is a pity. They could and should be world-class, and a primary source of reference, on local topics. Even Hindi Wikipedia (440M speakers) has only 120,000 articles. Compare Welsh (700,000 speakers, all of whom will be fully bilingual in English and Welsh, except perhaps for the few thousand in Argentina): 101,000 articles, and Mizo (830,000 speakers, who if they know English at all - I assume that most do, with the high literacy rate in Mizoram - will most likely have learned it as a second language): none. (There are in fact articles in Welsh Wikipedia which have no English equivalent. I've linked to a few, and translated one.))

(If you don't know what the second-biggest Wikipedia is, you'll never guess. It's Cebuano (21M speakers) with 5.4M articles, not very far behind English (1,400M speakers) with 5.7M. It's been populated by a handful of heroic editors. Most of those articles are very stubby indeed; but, importantly, they're there.) Narky Blert (talk) 09:29, 12 August 2018 (UTC)

Thanks Narky Blert. Of course my preference will be "government". Here in India, "govt." would always read "government" (and most pronunciations would be "gav'ment")! I have not come across the exact Wikipedia policy on naming convention for institutions, but the closest I can refer to (on government and legislation) prefers full official name, therefore, my point. [Thanks for the info on Wikipedia in other languages, and I had to click Cebuano, never heard of that before.] Chhandama (talk) 03:38, 13 August 2018 (UTC)

I am ok with Government, I had assumed that when it is Serchhip, Aizawl of Champhai Colllege, it would be assumed to reflect that College, but some of the College have a history of being supported by local community before taken over by Government hence the moniker Government before College or School. I don't think it sound nice but if that's the way they identify themselves, then so be it.(coolcolney
