Page title
editThe following copied and reordered from User:DWaterson and User:Unisouth's talk page:
I am moving the article back to where it was as it is about the whole company, not just the ferry. Unisouth 17:22, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
- I see you've moved the article back to Gosport Ferry Company Ltd. But - there's no such thing as the "Gosport Ferry Company Ltd". The ferry is operated by the Portsmouth Harbour Ferry Company plc, as this sourced version [1] clearly showed. I cannot see any reason for the article to be located at a restrictive and incorrectly named location where a simpler one is available in accordance with Wikipedia:Naming conventions. Is there some reason why you think the article should be restricted to one (non-existent) company, when it would have clearly more scope to grow and develop if it were about the whole entity? DWaterson 09:35, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
- If you have been to see the website, it clearly states at the top - Gosport Ferry Company Ltd. I think the website is down at the moment but it will be at www.gosportferry.co.uk . It is about the whole entity not just the ferry service, so it will remain at the original article namespace. Unisouth 10:08, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
- As you say, the website gosportferry.co.uk is currently down, so is therefore not a reliable or usable source. However, the website of Falkland Islands Holdings clearly states that the ferry is operated through a 100% shareholding in a company called The Portsmouth Harbour Ferry Company PLC.[2] Irrespective of that, the article name doesn't conform to Wikipedia naming conventions where a simpler alternative exists. I suggest a requested move so that a vote can be taken. DWaterson 10:27, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
- The comapny that is part of that company is the original title of that article. Why dont you wait until the website is back up then we make a decision. It isn't a suitable alternative as it clearly states it just about the ferry. It is about the cruises, tours and the ferry. And to a lesser extent - the pontoons themselves. You can type gosport ferry in and will go to that article so you dont have to remember the full title. What more do you want? Unisouth 10:31, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

Requested move
editGosport Ferry Company Ltd → Gosport Ferry — Page was previously moved by myself, but reverted by User:Unisouth. Page move is to simplify title in accordance with naming conventions and to correct name, given that the "Gosport Ferry Company Ltd" doesn't exist in any case. See talk page for discussion. Discussion
edit- Add any additional comments:
- Comment. The Falkland Island site [3] clearly shows the company being named as Gosport Ferry Ltd, as does [4], [5] about us page and companies house [6]. So, if we are going to insist on accurate company naming the article still needs renamingNuttah68 17:59, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
- Comment. Check official website. Unisouth 07:57, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
- I have. First line of the about us page reads - Gosport Ferry Ltd, has a long and proud tradition of service to the local communities -. The simple fact is no company is the UK has, or ever has had, the name Gosport Ferry Company Ltd as the Companies House register shows. Nuttah68 18:08, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
- Did you read the banner at the top aof all the pages? Unisouth 07:11, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
- Have you read the rest of the links?
- Companies House (the government agency that all Ltd companies MUST be registered with) confirms there is not, and never has been, a company named Gosport Ferry Company Ltd. There is, however, a company based in Gosport called Gosport Ferry Ltd.
- This is confirmed at the Falkland Island Holdings which confirms the subsidary is called Gosport Ferry Ltd.
- If we are to use the correct company name it is the name as registered and recognised by the owning company. If we are going to use a non official name for the article I'd say Gosport Ferry is a more apt title for the article. Nuttah68 17:58, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
I have moved the article. Unfortunately, Unisouth, you did a cut-paste move, which doesn't comply with the GDFL. In future, use the "Move" tab to preservepage histories. See WP:MOVE. Martinp23 00:26, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
