Regarding inclusion of students

edit

I reverted repeated additions of one (out of several) Giribet's PhD. students to the infobox. A tenured professor having PhD students is nothing unusual, and simple verifiability does not guarantee inclusion. Giribet's lab page shows 7 past grads and 4 current, who may or may not go onto become notable scientists, or become notable for other reasons, but they currently themselves add nothing but name-dropping to an article, and, while can possibly be mentioned in the article body, do not merit prominent placement in an infobox. Red-linking non-notable names should be discouraged as well, as they may only inspire well-intentioned but non-notable article creation, as some editors may think that any red-linked name is more important than the record suggests. We as editors cannot and should not infer or assume notability (WP:NOTINHERITED). --Animalparty-- (talk) 21:03, 19 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

@Animalparty: O.K. But we can still include the list and not wikify them, can we?--Mishae (talk) 22:51, 19 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
I'm opposed to listing any non-notable student in any infobox, with justification, as Template:Infobox scientist states the doctoral students field should have "Names of any notable doctoral students advised by the scientist", and the purpose of an infobox is to concisely summarize the article, not to shoehorn information, verifiable though it may be. If you feel that any students must absolutely be mentioned by name in the body of text, such that the article would be poorer or harder to understand without, I would be less opposed, but I doubt the students have a great influence on his work, aside from being part of it. --Animalparty-- (talk) 23:29, 19 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
@Animalparty: O.K. Lets live it aside for now, if any of his doctoral students will become notable, then we will talk about them.--Mishae (talk) 00:08, 20 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
@Animalparty: I would like to consult second opinion. Do you mind if user @Randykitty: will join this discussion?--Mishae (talk) 03:28, 20 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
Not a problem. Multiple opinions are how consensus is more quickly reached and article improvement optimized.--Animalparty-- (talk) 03:32, 20 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Self-promotion?

edit

I like Giribet, but reading this article in its present form is like reading a CV. — 2dk (talk) 00:07, 21 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Championships of what?

edit

Under "Personal life" it says that "Giribet participates in various championships including the Spanish National Championship, the European Championship, and the World Championship.[17]" but it does not say what kind of championships -- chess? Soccer?
