Where is this used?
I think there should be some mention of the 1099 form since its a federally codified term on the 1099. 76.17.161.105 (talk) 05:58, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
I moved this from golden handshake since it refers to this term, not golden handshake. But I've never encountered it used this way. Should it go in the article or not?
- In more general usage, "golden parachute" has come to signify any deal that—be it through money, another job (usually well-paid but more ceremonial, a sinecure)—makes it easier for an organization to get rid of a high-ranking member without fuss, trouble, protests, or bad press. This may be, for example, the offer of an ambassadorship (which is considered prestigious and socially desirable) to a minister not wanted anymore in the cabinet, or the promotion of a manager to chairman of the board of an affiliate.

Merge
Golden handshake and Golden parachute should be merged.
I disagree. Golden parachute is number 7 on the 1099 form. This is a federal income tax term. It deserves its own page. 76.17.161.105 (talk) 05:59, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
It should be merged. This is Englsih Wikipedia, nobody cares what some American tax form says because it isn't universally relevant. Caspar esq. (talk) 16:24, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
- The pages are saying THE SAME THING. That's reason enough to merge. I don't care to which title (though handshake seems more common). 94.194.66.92 (talk) 10:58, 14 October 2009 (UTC)
Cleanup
Have attempted to cleanup article adding citations, doing some research etc. Still needs work. --BoogaLouie (talk) 15:39, 11 April 2012 (UTC)
