I've only seen one episode of the cartoon version and it was dubbed in French, but a talking dog seemed to be a member of the yakuza family. That might be worth mentioning if he was a regular DavidJohns 20:19, 26 December 2006 (UTC)

About Tetsu

It's written in the synopsis that Tetsu is secretly in love with her but how important is that element within the drama? Because it doesn't seem to exist in the manga. I don't particularly think that necessarily needs to mentioned. Correct me if I'm wrong though. LittleWhisky 13:37, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

If you want to get information about it (without just copying from other sources) and add a section about the Drama interpretation (seasons 1 and 2 can go in one section), go for it. The article should be comprehensive and cover all the media that the series has been adapted into. anyway. Nique talk 14:28, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

Structure

Why is it that the page is more anime-centric? Didn't the drama air before the the anime series? Is it because "the Gokusen" anime takes priority because of its inclusion in the Wikiproject anime? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jaybob1222 (talk • contribs) 22:57, 1 May 2007 (UTC).

I'd actually like to see more about the drama and manga in here as well, the manga being the original medium (I've never read it, though, so I don't know how far it deviates from the anime and/or drama storylines), and the drama being longer than the anime and thus probably having more storyline, aside from the fact that it has a second season with all new (except a few) characters, which is hardly mentioned (the second season's cast isn't even listed in the Drama section). Trivia about "kumi"

The trivia about "kumi" is interesting, but the whole description seems to me, as a native Japanese speaker, not more than a foreigner's personal impression that I don't share at all. I don't think most Japanese ever thought of the shared sound of kumi between "Kumiko" and "kumi (組 as a suffix for anything including yakuza groups)." In our sense, they are very, very far from each other. The reason can't be easily explained, but at least I could point out that kanji's influence is so strong in our mind that a simple or partial similarity in sound is too weak to provoke other meanings especially when words are totally in different uses. The auther has never mentioned it, either. I think this 'trivia' should be deleted.

PPS: Nicknames as a combination of partial surname and partial first name "kumi" are often used in Japan. Celebrities like Gotō Kumiko was known as "Go-kumi" and Endō Kumiko as "En-kumi." Yan-kumi just follows this traditional style.
In the description of the "kumi" trivia, only the following part seems to be true, except that "Yankee" is used to refer to both men and women.

Her nickname also evokes the word "Yankee", a word used to refer to delinquent youngsters of the bike gang type, especially women (like Arisa Uotani in Fruits Basket).

All in all, "Yan-" came from her surname "Yamaguchi," with a image of "Yankee" and possibly "young". But could it be for "Yamaguchi-gumi"? Very likely no. In addition, Yamaguchi is a common family name. Hrkoew 21:06, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

Class "3D"

Article needs cleanup

I've noticed that the article contains trivia that can very easily be integrated into the other sections, plus the "characters" section needs to be rewritten because it seems that each section for each character is written in an unencyclopedic way--it's not very subjective and sounds like something that would be found on a fansite. Also, there aren't any references or sources as far as I can tell, and the article also needs cleanup regarding grammar and style.

I know that other people have said this before, but we need information for the Gokusen II drama, too. Also, there should probably be clear distinctions between the manga, anime, and drama. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.110.72.211 (talk) 00:58, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

Shounen or Shoujo?

There are some shounen mangas that have predominantly female followings in America; Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro, Gensoumaden Saiyuki, Yu-Yu Hakusho to name a few. Is this one of them? Or is this shoujo? It's not nausiatingly sweet & dainty like typical shoujo, but I have a hard time believing a series about an plain looking ass-kicking yakuza woman who plays night in shining armor to a pretty boy in a school where all men are dumb as dirt is directed at men. If it WAS written by a guy, I'd sure like to meet him.

It's Jousei, for older women.

Manga?

Anime vs Manga.

In the anime, the groups is always refured to as the Oedo Family, in the manga it's always the Kuroda Family.
