COI and advertising problems.
editPer the current templates, this article shows clear signs of COI editing to promotional effect. One example of the problems is the use of unreliable sources (such as IMDB), and of primary sources (such as press releases). Any information which is exclusively supported by these sources should probably be removed if better sources cannot be found, per WP:PRIMARY and WP:BLPSOURCES. I would recommend anyone who is professionally or socially connected to Smith, or Hanson Robotics, to carefully review WP:COI. Anyone who is compensated for editing must disclose this, per WP:PAID. For convenience, Wikipedia:Plain and simple conflict of interest guide may also be helpful, but this is a serious issue which should be addressed before these templates are removed. - @RickeyEstes: Please review these comments I made several days ago. Thank you. Grayfell (talk) 06:24, 27 February 2019 (UTC)
Greyfell, I removed the Hanson robotics link and sentence, twice. What specifically is the issue? RickeyEstes (talk) 02:26, 3 March 2019 (UTC)
@Greyfell: I am new editor on Wikipedia, it is nice to meet you. I read the links and several links on the pages and several links on those pages, too. I want to remove the 2 comments on the top of the Gina Smith Wikipedia page. What specifically is the issue?
I just want to make sure that I understand this correctly.
RickeyEstes (talk) 06:02, 7 March 2019 (UTC)
- I explained the issue above, and provided an example. Grayfell (talk) 02:54, 16 March 2019 (UTC)
@Greyfell, What specifically is the problem? I need to know what the problem is, so that I can clean it up. Where is the example? 03:03, 16 March 2019 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by RickeyEstes (talk • contribs)
- Why do you need to clean it up?
- The example is above, where I mention problems with unreliable sources such as IMDB. There are other problems with trivia and promotional content being given undue weight. Please don't remove these templates until after these issues have been resolved. Grayfell (talk) 03:08, 16 March 2019 (UTC)
- @RickeyEstes: Hello. As I said before, there are other problems with trivia and promotional content.
- You removed one use of the IMDB ref, but did not remove all of them. Additionally, it's okay to list the IMDB in the "external links" section, just not as a reference. It is also important to figure out why the reference was used in the first place. When removing a reference, you also need to evaluate the content it is supporting. If content is only supported by IMDB, it needs to be removed or rewritten with a new, reliable source. Instead of worrying about the templates, please try to address the problems I have been describing. Do you understand what I am saying? Grayfell (talk) 23:50, 26 March 2019 (UTC)
- Again, as I said, there are other problems with trivia and promotional content. Are you here to improve the article, or are you here to remove the COI tags? Grayfell (talk) 04:35, 27 March 2019 (UTC)
@Greyfell what is the problem? RickeyEstes (talk) 13:25, 27 March 2019 (UTC)
@Greyfell which lines are trivia and promotional content? RickeyEstes (talk) 13:30, 27 March 2019 (UTC)
- In the time it would take me to list out all of them, I could just fix it myself. Instead of worrying about the templates, try to track down reliable sources for all the information in the article. How do we know her grandmother is Svetomir Đukić? It's mentioned in the article, but it doesn't have a source. Likewise, how do we know which school she went to, or where she was born? FOr privacy reasons, please limit sources to publicly available information, per WP:BLP. Do not cite unreliable sources, such as routine press releases or similar. If you cannot find sources for these details, they should be removed. Grayfell (talk) 20:16, 27 March 2019 (UTC)
@Greyfell After going through the links that you posted in this thread and some of the links on those pages, I began to wonder how much time it will take to read all of that. I just do not have time to read all of this stuff. I don't think that Wikipedia editing is for me. How do I unsubscribe to my Wikipedia editor account? RickeyEstes (talk) 23:47, 2 April 2019 (UTC)
