Notability: what's the problem?
editSomeone put in a tag stating, "The notability of this article's subject is in question. If notability cannot be established, it may be listed for deletion or removed. Tagged since June 2009."
i can understand that someone might want more third party references. But unless there's any reason to doubt that "German Institute of Global and Area Studies (GIGA) is the largest German and one of the largest European research institutes of Area Studies and Comparative Area Studies with about 50 researchers" and that it "emerged in Hamburg from the German Overseas Institute (founded in 1964) after a restructuring process in 2006", then there's not much reason to doubt its notability.
en.wikipedia is not the USA-UK wikipedia!.
Just because a topic concerns a country other than the USA or UK does not mean that wikipedians selected according to the known selection biases in the English language wikipedia should question the notability of the topic. We can ask for more third party references without questioning the notability of the topic. Boud (talk) 20:28, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
- There is plenty of reason to doubt that the GIGA is the largest whatever: it has no sources that make that claim. Without sources I could just as easily claim that it is the fourth largest pizza restaurant in Germany. Fix the sources and the notability problem will likely be fixed as well.
