(1) WP:DCAT makes a provision for adding something like Category:Initialisms: "Most disambiguation pages do not need to be placed into any categories other than those generated by the template. If such cases do arise ... , then the additional categories should be placed after the template." (2) What articles are hidden? (3) The fact that many such articles don't include the category is neither here nor there. Many do. The category is populated with them. Clarityfiend (talk) 21:41, 7 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

(1) Is there a _need_ to categorise dab pages based on whether some/all of the terms are abbreviations ? (btw most such dab pages are not currently so categorised). The next bit of DCAT ("If new topical categories of disambiguation pages seem to be needed, please bring this up for discussion at Wikipedia talk:Disambiguation.") implies that if further categorization is needed it should be a separate category for dab pages (as has been done for species names). (2) By looking at these categories I've found many articles that don't belong here (e.g. HTML is about a markup language, not about an abbreviation) and a number of articles that were not in the appropriate category (e.g. it makes more sense for POMCUS to be under Category:Logistics than under category:Language) - that's the main problem I'm trying to fix here. Having several hundred dab pages mixed up in the same category makes it harder to keep such articles properly categorised. (3) Category:Abbreviations is for articles about abbreviations (Apocope and Xmas for example) - i.e. articles that belong under Category:Language. It also contains some categories specifically for redirects and dab pages. DexDor (talk) 20:59, 8 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
