Meaning
editThe introductory line has it ass backwards. The Old German 'fridu' (meaning 'peace' in English) is part of many composite names like Friedrich, Friedbert, Friedlinde, but also Alfred, Manfred. As a surname this usually means the family decended from someone with such a name. Then there were Jewish people with family names like Solomon or Sholem (derived from the Hebrew word for 'peace') who chose or were given a new surname according to translation into German. -- 2003:E5:171F:44E0:61DD:6FEA:570D:B054 (talk) 11:20, 6 January 2022 (UTC)
