Foreign Secretary → Foreign secretary – This article was previously at Foreign secretary but was moved to this title as an uncontroversial request. I would argue that it is far from controversial, that by far the commonest meaning for Foreign Secretary (capitalised) is the British Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs (for which it is still the commonly used shorthand, to the extent that most people would probably not know what the full title was), and that the capitalised version should therefore be returned to redirecting there as it did before. The other three Foreign Secretaries on this list are senior civil servants and all relatively recently created positions; the British Foreign Secretary, on the other hand, is one of the most senior government ministers of one of the most significant states in world history and is a title that has existed since 1782; every holder has been a significant figure on the world stage. An alternative would be to move this article to Foreign Secretary (disambiguation). -- Necrothesp (talk) 10:56, 26 July 2016 (UTC)
- As the British office that is commonly termed 'foreign secretary' is not properly called 'foreign secretary', but 'Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs', WP:JOBTITLES makes it clear that this is a description of the post, and not a formal title, and should be lowercased. Therefore, this dab page should be lowercased, but 'Foreign Secretary' must also redirect here. As for the question of whether the British post is the primary topic, I believe that to be separate. Data should be provided. If that's the case, this page can be moved to Foreign secretary (disambiguation). RGloucester — ☎ 14:46, 26 July 2016 (UTC)
- Support. Google "foreign secretary" -wikipedia and Boris Johnson dominates the results. So I don't think there is any primary topic issue. Any style guide will tell you to lower case job titles, although Wikipedians seem to have a lot of trouble with this rule. H. Humbert (talk) 03:27, 27 July 2016 (UTC)
- So, in other words, you're saying that Foreign Secretary and Foreign secretary should redirect to Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, and that this page should be at Foreign secretary (disambiguation), correct? That's what WP:DAB would suggest. RGloucester — ☎ 14:16, 27 July 2016 (UTC)
