Content
editThe content of this article is very lopsidedly unencyclopedic. Great detail is given to describing potential sexual innuendoes in the song (and since no sources are given, the very determination of what constitutes an innuendo would be original research), while nothing is devoted to an encyclopedic discussion of the song's lyrics or melody, or to critical response to the song. Johnleemk | Talk 16:14, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
- Kudos to Sceptre (talk · contribs) for cleaning up the article. Still, a pity that there's no actual commentary on, you know, the song. :p I'm sure there would be a magazine or two out there that has done at least some half-decent analysis of the lyrics/melody. What's up with the Maltese?
editSeems the Irish this time dug their own grave in getting last by giving 50% of the overall UK points (without getting one back, which they couldn't know). And why on earth would anyone give this song 12 points? I'd have expected some points from Malta due to "tradition" and colonial history, but 12?! And why didn't Germany get a single point from them this time, contradicting the tradition and colony thing that used to apply? (However these are rather rhetoric questions & maybe something to think about.) Cheers, Edwing 00:00, 13 May 2007 (UTC)
- Eurovision is 90% political. Hence why Eastern countries usually win it - ex-Russians vote for Russia, Balkans vote for Balkans, Scandinavia trade votes, and Cyprus gives 12 to Greece every year. Will (is it can be time for messages now plz?) 02:08, 13 May 2007 (UTC)
- Maybe, shock horror, the Maltese liked the song. It is rather catchy and kitsch! Tim (Xevious) 09:54, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
3rd Opinion
edit- Flying the Flag (for You) - did it come joint-22nd with France (with 19 points each), or 23rd (as the UK only received two votes, while France received five, and tie-breaking rules state that France place higher)? Will (is it can be time for messages now plz?) 10:50, 13 May 2007 (UTC)
- I've come here from the wikipedia 3rd Opinion page. The entry came 23rd. Place is determined not just by votes but by number of votes. As shown on the scdoreboard last night the British entry came 23rdASH1977LAW 11:28, 13 May 2007 (UTC) Sorry - my mistake [[1]] it IS joint 22nd. Hold on... it's NOT 22nd it's 23rd [[2]]. Right - I'm changing it to 23rd as that is what the scoreboard says until we have a citation from the official eurovision site. ASH1977LAW 11:39, 13 May 2007 (UTC)
- It came 23rd - I've cited it. Will (is it can be time for messages now plz?) 13:42, 13 May 2007 (UTC)
What is the song based on?
editInstrumentally? I'm fairly sure that I heard this beat before. --80.47.11.115 22:26, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
GA
editEasy pass. All five criteria met easily, and could probably make FA with little further work. Nice job. Adam Cuerden talk 04:34, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
Unfair definition of Malta Vote
editSaying that the 12 points from Malta were all protest surely isn't true ok the cite says that the head delegation guy thought it was protested but what if people acctually voted for it because they liked it like we did so as they're is no way of proving that every single person who voted for it as a protest, should the text saying it was because of politics be removed or edited, politics obviously influened it in some way or another but surely it's wrong to say everyone protested. --Axel8 16:28, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
- The source says that Malta's vote was a protest, whether it means a unanimous or majority vote among the board. We should be focusing on what is verifiable, not what is true. Will (talk) 22:42, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
Potential Porn in thier video
editIn my edit which was reverted at http://en.wiki.x.io/w/index.php?title=Flying_the_Flag_%28for_You%29&oldid=205197592
I reported that at approximately 1:19 in thier video the women appear to be wearing no underwear and that you can see up thier skirts. As this video has been shown widely on TV, i beloieve it could be a potential contraversy that porn has been shown before the watershed.
For those with fast fingers that do not believe this go to
http://www.myspace.com/scoochworld
start the "flying the flag" video (it is the first one) and pause it when their legs open at approximaelty 1:19
You can then right click and zoom in and out. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Chulcoop (talk • contribs) 21:38, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
As this is thier official video on thier official site i believe it deserves a mention. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Chulcoop (talk • contribs) 21:30, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
For You
editCan someone revert the name change from "Flying the Flag (for You)" to "Flying the Flag (For You)"? This is per WP:MUSTARD#Capitalization, which says "Titles that include parentheses should be capitalized as though both the part inside and outside the parentheses are separate titles". Thanks. --Wolfer68 (talk) 00:01, 13 June 2009 (UTC)

editYou said "ref #3 and ref #3". Is this a typo? Sceptre (talk) 12:54, 12 July 2009 (UTC)
- 2b and 2c fixed. Waiting on clarification for 2a. Sceptre (talk) 12:58, 12 July 2009 (UTC)
- Indeed a typo, see above #3 and #10. Thanks for spotting that. Jezhotwells (talk) 12:59, 12 July 2009 (UTC)
- Ref #2 does not support the statement The song scored only nineteen points: twelve from Malta, and seven from Ireland. I can't find anything at [3] that breaks down the scoring, supporting 12 from Malta and 7 from Ireland. You can probably find a newspaper that mentions this, but its not on that Eurovsion page. Jezhotwells (talk) 13:05, 12 July 2009 (UTC)
- Ref #10 isn't dead; I can access it perfectly. Ref #3 is, and I've fixed it. Ref #2 was a victim of the EBU reorganising their website, and is also fixed. Sceptre (talk) 13:13, 12 July 2009 (UTC)
