Tony Burke's portfolio
editThe name change from Minister for Population to Minister for Sustainable Population has been announced today, and we're already taking note of that here and in other articles (Minister for Sustainable Population (Australia) has been renamed). I wonder if we're not jumping the gun, though. Until the Governor-General formalises the new portfolio and department names in the Administrative Arrangements Order, they do not officially exist except as prime ministerial proposals. The PM cannot just unilaterally change the names of departments and portfolios and put them into effect without the GG agreeing. -- Jack of Oz ... speak! ... 07:23, 27 June 2010 (UTC)
Gillard's other portfolios
editI'm of the view that she retained her existing portolios (other than Deputy Prime Minister), until Crean took them over on 28 June:
- Minister for Education
- Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations
- Minister for Social Inclusion.
Ministers retain their portfolios until they resign, die, or have them withdrawn by the G-G on the advice of the PM (other than 11.11.75). Becoming Prime Minister would not have required the dropping of these portfolios, and the only effect of doing so would have been to create an unnecessary vacancy for a few days, of which I've seen no evidence. -- Jack of Oz ... speak! ... 12:07, 24 September 2010 (UTC)
- That's correct - Julia Gillard remained in her ministerial roles as well as being PM until Simon Crean was sworn in to replace her as minister. Nick-D (talk) 23:04, 24 September 2010 (UTC)
