I think the ref to this "rumour" should be removed, unless it can be substantiated.
- I can substantiate it;) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.67.63.106 (talk) 19:15, 31 October 2007 (UTC)
- I think a relationship between being gay and having nipple and Prince Albert piercings is implied, and is inappropriate. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.26.98.118 (talk) 08:07, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
- This is hardly of any concern, true or not. His dodgy right wing affiliations and strike breaking are what people need to know. —Preceding unsigned comment added by PrivateWiddle (talk • contribs) 10:30, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
- Can't say I'm surprised to hear about that, PW. I'm currently watching a programme presented by him entitled Made In Britain. It's more like a love letter to Margaret Thatcher than an objective assessment of Britain's economic standing. Guv2006 (talk) 20:36, 20 June 2011 (UTC)
Blindness
editThe article mentions that Davis is blind, but doesn't make clear if he's partially blind, blind in one eye etc, also it doesn't seem to be referenced in any way. Could there be perhaps more sources that can clarify this? londonsista | Prod 13:58, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
- He's not blind. See his own website's FAQ about his eyes: https://www.evandavis.co.uk/faqs/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by 117.20.68.185 (talk) 02:58, 8 March 2020 (UTC)
- It's unsourced, so I removed it. --HughCharlesParker (talk - contribs) 15:44, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
- If he is blind, I'd be quite worried about the "Davis is a keen motorcyclist, and was seen riding a Yamaha R6 motorcycle in BBC2's The City Uncovered with Evan Davis." bit in the "Personal life" section. - 212.139.104.58 (talk) 00:12, 28 December 2012 (UTC)
Name
editIn a further note, is there any reason why the article is entitled Evan Davis (journalist)? There appears to be only one Evan Davis within Wikipedia, so is there any need for the further clarification in brackets? londonsista | Prod 14:04, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
- I'd like to rename the page if at all possible and be bold, but don't want to incur the wrath of any objectors.. :P Don't know if/when this will be read by anyone, but I'll go ahead and rename in a few days if there's no objections. :) londonsista | Prod
Rosie Millard quote
editI removed the Rosie Millard quote - it's out of context, and doesn't actually say anything about Evan. I assume it to be relating to the alleged Prince Albert piercing, but the quote doesn't say so. I thought about rephrasing it, but I couldn't think of what could we verifiably say - "We don't know whether or not Evan Davis has a Prince Albert" was as close as I could get, and that sentence doesn't say anything. I also couldn't find the cited article in the Sunday Times' archive. --HughCharlesParker (talk - contribs) 16:04, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
- Scratch that last bit - I have now found the article. Here's a link in case anyone can make use of it. --HughCharlesParker (talk - contribs) 16:10, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Politics
editExtended content

---|
It seems odd that no one has mentioned thus far the political milieu of which Evan Davis is a part. He is an unabashed fan of capitalism, or “business economics” as he would probably term it, a fact that emerges clearly from his fawning and respectful demeanour when interviewing business men and women on The Bottom Line. This celebratory mode has infected the now-dreadful Today Programme, where any pretence at objectivity has long-since vanished. Although notionally a news programme, it has become a party political broadcast for neoliberalism, a platform where hedge fund managers pop up every ten minutes or so to give their opinions. They are rarely given a hard time politically, a situation due in no small part to deferential interviews not just by Evan Davis but also by Justin Webb, another fan of capitalism. The presence of both the latter in the Today Programme (or more accurately Toady Programme), and the consequent political milieu of what passes for news, is a result of the need by the BBC to appease government which controls the purse strings.
Beware. Predictably, a conservative vandal has attempted to censor this discussion of media politics(why are we not surprised), and the role of Evan Davis in the way it has changed, so I have restored the whole section. Perhaps such people think we can be confined to a discussion of his sexuality, which is his own business and of no interest to those not concerned. His politics is a different matter entirely, and affects us all, whether we recognize it or not. 19.46. 10 November, 2011. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.173.9.62 (talk) 19:49, 10 November 2011 (UTC)

I have collapsed the above text as it appears to fail WP:NOTFORUM and WP:TALKNO. Apart from being a rant, the only suggestion I could see in this text was to add a section called "political milieu" which would be so general as to be off-topic for a biography article. --Fæ (talk) 13:57, 11 November 2011 (UTC)
His REAL Name
editPlease note that Evan Davis is an impostor. His real, actual, maiden name is Noshua D'Lehb. I have fixed this issue a few times already and was thwarted previously by an overachiever named Shellwood. Now, it seems, Serols has taken it upon itself to revert the very obvious corrections. Please stop. I will tell someone high up about this nonsense.
And as always, shellwood.....NO. And Serols, I'm watching you, baby. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 102.250.3.64 (talk) 16:00, 22 September 2019 (UTC)

Sweet Reason
editSomewhere in this article, it could be mentioned that Evan Davis has presented a BBC Radio Four programme on Thursday mornings called "Sweet Reason", discussing controversial topics without getting overly heated. Vorbee (talk) 15:57, 28 August 2018 (UTC)
- Yes. Here's a link to the webpage. Martinevans123 (talk) 16:01, 28 August 2018 (UTC)
P.M. programme
editI am sure I have heard somewhere that Evan Davis will be joining the P.M. programme on BBC Radio Four. This was said in the context of Newsnight's loss meaning P.M.'s gain. If this means Evan Davis will be leaving Newsnight, the article will need to be updated. Vorbee (talk) 19:35, 28 September 2018 (UTC)
Obsession with BBC presenters salaries
editHi, these are not really relevant to the article and they do change with pay rises and inflation.
Would you like to tell the world on here what you earn - that is a question and not a sarcastic comment!
Regards
Juanpumpchump (talk) 17:17, 4 March 2019 (UTC)
- Who has an "obsession" exactly? It's merely sourced information that I have restored. The amount paid to a notable employee of a public corporation, funded by the license-fee payer, seems more than relevant to me. This amount is dated, so we need not worry about any "change with pay rises". And I'm really not sure what difference is made to the value of that salary, by the inflation rate over the course of just 18 months. An inflation correction comparison figure can easily be added when needed. What I might or might not want to "tell the world" is wholly irrelevant; I'm not a notable TV and radio personality with a Wikipedia page. And Davies doesn't do the telling here either, we do. I believe this is completely relevant information that many readers will find interesting. Let's see what other editors think. Martinevans123 (talk) 18:34, 4 March 2019 (UTC)
- Agree 100% that such salaries are relevant, particularly so when they are large. Without a doubt, any six figure salary is of note if it’s paid for by licence fee payers or taxpayers.Shakehandsman (talk) 22:41, 4 March 2019 (UTC)
Merge Proposal
editI'm proposing that The Bottom Line (radio programme) be merged into this article because I don't believe that the article meets WP:GNG. A WP:PROD was removed on the grounds that the topic meets WP:RPRGM, however, the policy states that "the presence or absence of reliable sources is more definitive than the geographic range of the program's audience alone," which I think indicates that it's still not notable enough for a stand alone article. I think the article is a WP:PERMASTUB that should be merged based on WP:PAGEDECIDE. TipsyElephant (talk) 18:53, 5 July 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose sources found. Despite now a technical merge due to the consensus at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The Bottom Line (radio programme) due to sources found post that discussion, I'm contesting the merge - discussion is at Talk:The Bottom Line (radio programme)#Notability.
