According to The BioSystematic Database of World Diptera the valid name is Eriothrix rufomaculatus rather than Eriothrix rufomaculata. --TristramBrelstaff (talk) 21:25, 30 July 2010 (UTC)
- Wikipedia is following the ICZN Code. 'Thrix' is the classic Greek word for 'hair' and its gender is female. So the final part of the name has to be a female form too (see article 30.12 of the code). In Latin the ending 'a' represents the female and 'us' the male gender. So Eriothrix rufomaculata is the correct name of the species. --Pristurus (talk) 21:41, 25 July 2014 (UTC)
