Definitely some progress
editI see some edits here but it's still a skim article. I'm a little confused on the purpose of the article overall as it seems to be a mish-mash of environmental issues without quite driving a point home. I recommend looking at some of the suggestions made in the topics below and make some adjustments based on those.
Also, I know you've made edits Rclaussen, but I don't see them? Are they still in your sandbox? If so can you publish them so I can go more into detail with my peer review? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Norellia (talk • contribs) 19:43, 30 March 2018 (UTC)
Needs to be re-written
editThis reads more like an opinionated essay rather than an encyclopedia article. Someone should really fix it up. Soccrmastr 00:42, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
"Fishing down the foodweb"
edit"Fishing down the foodweb" - what does that mean? The picture is certainly pretty, but what does it mean? Is it useful or meaningful to anybody? If not, let's remove it. Thanks 221.47.185.5 (talk) 09:40, 10 October 2009 (UTC)
I think it shows the larger fish eating the smaller fish or maybe we are take apart the food web because of our fishing? 06etc (talk) 19:10, 19 April 2019 (UTC)
Loaded language
editSome of the language used in this article seems persuasive and more suited for an argumentative essay. The article could be improved by using more matter-of-fact wording. While this topic leans toward environmentalism, the conservationist view point may be over represented. Cvirwin (talk) 06:27, 6 March 2017 (UTC)
- Anyone willing to help improve this, and also translate into German? -- Horst-schlaemma (talk) 13:45, 10 May 2022 (UTC)

"Ecological disruption"
editHi there, I was reading your article and thought that it would be of interest to merge the "Ecological disruption" section into the "Overfishing" section as they seem to talk about similar concepts. Cheers Nick Hajaly (talk) 04:01, 20 January 2018 (UTC)
A few changes
editThis article is a good start to talking about the impact of fishing, but a lot needs to be fixed. First off, the article itself was way too short, there is opportunity to expand on each subcategory, especially those who don't have another main article they can link to (such as the ecological disruption category which is only three sentences). Additionally, though most of the cited sourced check out, many of the claims made needed citations. The sources could be updated though, the most recent article is from 2014, and much more research has been done on this topic. I also think that they should include a statistics section in the article, providing more information on how deeply each anthropogenic fishing activity effects the ecosystem. Is "wildly used" a typo?
editHi all,
A sentence under "Catch-and-release" reads: "While catch-and-release fishing has been wildly used in recreational fishing, it is also beneficial for maintaining fish populations at a stable level for commercial fisheries to receive social and economic benefits."
What does "wildly used" mean here? Is it supposed to be "widely used"?
Have a great day,
