This page seems to focus on nation wide engineering traditions rather than those of the UBC EUS in particular. Is there a "Canadian Engineering" page of some sort were most of this stuff would be better in? TastyCakes 04:16, 8 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Further to my comments on the deletion proposal, I think that this article requires a complete rewrite to focus on the UBC EUS, rather than on engineering traditions in general. The information currently on the article is (for the most part) valuable, but not in this context. The material on the ring would fit on such a "Canadian Engineering" page, while the part about the pub could be pared down substantially. I'd like to see (and would be happy to work on) an article that outlines the history, traditions, and notoriety of the EUS. Ckatz 04:48, 18 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Then go ahead and write it. Ardenn 04:40, 18 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

I moved the stuff I thought was unrelated to the EUS in particular to Engineering traditions in Canada. Some of it will probably have to be removed even from there. TastyCakes 21:00, 19 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Renomination

edit

How can this article be up for renomination for deletion? I checked wikipedias polcies Deletion_policy#Limitations_on_renominationand renominating this does not follow these policies. ryanc 20:32, 19 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

It can be renominated at any time, no matter the result of the previous afd. In this case the result was no consensus, I want to get a clearer consensus. Ardenn 20:33, 19 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
What is your reasoning for deletion? I have updated to page to relect UBC engineering as suggested in the prior deletion discussion, yet you still request that the page be deleted. Rather than deletion, it may be better to give me suggestions on how to improve this article. I have a lot of information about the society. ryanc 20:38, 19 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
My reasons are stated on the afd nomination page. That's the place to discuss it. Ardenn 20:39, 19 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

List of Past Presidents

edit

Is there any reason I cannot have a list of past presidents? There is one on the Alma Mater Society of UBC. Since the EUS is strongly based on history and tradition, I think it's a good idea to do this. I know wikipedia is not a directory, but that's not the intent of this. ryanc 20:17, 19 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Doesn't mean the AMS should include it either. Ardenn 20:32, 19 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
I realize that. Is there any reason why it should not be included here? ryanc 20:44, 19 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

"Is there any reason I cannot have a list of past presidents?" Yes,WP:NOT#DIR if the EUS needs a wiki page to archive its history they should sent up their own wiki site. Could even move the Handbuk there etc. Regardless, wikipedia is not a directory WP:NOT#DIR because all article must be noteable WP:NOT. Shadesofgrey 07:04, 12 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

COPYVIO

edit

Is it just me or is most of this article a copyvio from here?? I'll avoid posting a {{copyvio}} notice on the article space for a few day, because of recent activity, but you need to write our own material!! Good luck. Andrewjuren(talk) 06:49, 19 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Does it matter that I have control over the content on that website? ryanc 17:05, 19 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yes, it does matter. See Wikipedia:Copyrights. Ardenn 18:35, 19 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
Fair enough, there is no problem using this material, but I can easily write something new. ryanc 20:15, 19 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Soapbox

edit

Please note, comments like "This organization can, and will, evolve to meet the needs of today's student" are not encyclopedic. Wikipedia is not a soapbox. Andrewjuren(talk) 06:53, 19 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Stunts

edit

Hey Ryan, you say on the deletion nomination page that you have a list of previous stunts done by the EUS. Do you think you could put a more comprehensive list of these on the site with dates? I think that would go a long way in making people think the article is notable. TastyCakes 07:32, 20 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Of course I can do that. I wish we had an archivist! ryanc 19:07, 20 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

STUdeNT projectS include, are rumoured to have included the following.

  • Bug on Lions Gate Bridge, Golden Gate Bridge (2001), on the Clock Tower UBC, and a failed attempt to string one between Burrard and Granville bridges (c. 1984 - 1987).
  • A car (sedan not bug) was wedged in Gates UBC (c. 1989). Photograph made the Sun.
  • The Alaska Highway sign stolen.
  • The speakers chair from BC legislature stolen.
  • The no crap in arts campaign of late sixties. No crap in arts? stickers stating such circulating for weeks then teams of engineering students went into Buchanan with sledgehammers. Hence no crap in arts.
  • Public art created by engineering students was erected and destroyed to public protest (date unknown).
  • Fake exam schedules posted (early 90s).
  • The Cow's Cow mascot from Robson street store was replaced with a mini cairn for a week while the cow when site seeing. (2000 or 2001).
  • Science World lights turned off. Large red E placed on top (c. 1993).

Don't move any of this content to article w/o corroboration from yearbook, personal account, newspaper (eg. Sun or Ubyssey) and the like. Diligent researchers will look for records of these stunts. They usually occured in Feb. Shadesofgrey 05:00, 12 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
