No. It should be renamed back to "Hottentot apron" as that seems to be the used term. E.g. Merriam-Webster's Medical Dictionary, Sex-Lexis. Whereas "elongated labia" refers to something more general out of scope for the article. Rune X2 (talk) 15:32, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

Um, the paper that this stuff is taken from? Someone should check out the site that posted it. I admit that I'm not familiar with the author's work; I am, however, distrustful of anything seen as important by far-right white supremacist Holocaust deniers. I cannot see anything in the article that is blatanty POV, but it would probably be better if a different, more neutral reference was used instead of one taken from a white supremacist website. --Ezeu 19:52, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

Better Picture

Any way we can get some better pictures? The ones on there now look like they came from the seventeenth century! I don't know anyone with this sort of labia or I would take the picture myself. Nature or Nurture?

Two Articles about the same? And incorrect information.

There are two articles on wikipedia. This one (elongated labia) and labia elongation. The labia elongation article is much better written and more accurate.

Additionally, this article (elongated labia) says that this practice falls under genital mutilation. The UN has revoked its classification of this terminology because in Uganda and other parts of Africa the practice is primarily used to enhance sexual pleasure for both men and women, and as a rape deterrent. Advocates say that it's not mutilation because the purpose is not to harm the girl or to control it, but rather to enhance her life. Also, the girl does it herself and is natural - no cutting or anything of the sort.

Myth

The second source, Wit over zwart by Jan Nederveen Pieterse, states that the 'Hottentot Apron' is a myth. It even does so in the title, The Female Hottentot, with natural Apron. A medical myth. At the moment, this article simply restates a hundreds of years old colonialist myth as fact.
