Self-published websites may be used as External links, but are not considered RS according to Wikipedia policy. There is considerable documentation about the Custis and Washington families, and also about Thomas Law. I moved the Arliss He to External links and deleted Geneall as a source.Parkwells (talk) 17:52, 5 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

Renaming this article

edit

This article used to be Eliza Parke Custis Law. It has been recently moved to Eliza Law with the edit summary of "(Make shorter (WP:CONCISE, WP:PRECISE): Name best known by)" but Eliza Law is not the name this person is best known by - see

So, a couple of things:

  • WP:CONCISE does not always apply to people, as the policy clearly states the following -
Exceptions exist for biographical articles. For example, given names and family names are usually not omitted or abbreviated for the purposes of concision. Thus Oprah Winfrey (not Oprah) and Jean-Paul Sartre (not J. P. Sartre).
  • WP:PRECISE does not mean Wikipedia truncates the names by which people have historically been known - Eliza's various relatives in the Custis line are historically known by their first middle last names, and often this is done especially in colonial and post-colonial Virginia research and history because the people kept on recycling names.

I disagree with the renaming of this article and think it should retain its previous title of Eliza Parke Custis Law but let's see what the editorial consensus might be. Shearonink (talk) 06:18, 13 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
