Transliteration

Well, I doubt that one lecturer can be much more reliable than two known websites. When it comes to this, it seems to me that 'Express' would be more suitable because, as Ezhiki pointed out, it is a correct translation of a Russian word 'Экспресс'. • In order to make such a move you would first have to overhaul the precedent that most if not all Russian spacecraft names are transliterated, not translated. To use an example I previously gave in a similar discussion, you would have to move "Soyuz (spacecraft) to Union (spacecraft), Vostok spacecraft to East (spacecraft), Zvezda (ISS module) to Star (ISS module), Energia to Energy (rocket), Molniya (rocket) to Lightning (rocket), Molniya (satellite) to Lightning (satellite), Molniya orbit to Lightning orbit, Luna programme to Moon programme, Rokot to Roar (rocket), Shtil' to Calm (rocket), Volna to Wave (rocket), Strela (rocket) to Arrow (rocket), Salyut program to Salute programme, Mir to Peace (spacecraft), Spektr to Spectrum (Mir module), Kvant 1 and 2 to Quantum 1 and 2, Kristall to Crystal (Mir module), Priroda to Nature (Mir module), Buran (spacecraft) to Snowstorm (spacecraft), Nauka (ISS module) to Science (ISS module), Parus (satellite) to Sail, Poisk (ISS module) to Search (ISS module), and so on. Sputnik to Satellite (satellite) could be fun. Not to mention the fact that Rassvet, Voskhod and Zarya would all have to be renamed Dawn, a name which is already occupied by a US spacecraft - I'd love to see you try and disambiguate that. As a batch RM, that lot would be reminiscent of the January 1997 Delta II launch. In short, translating spacecraft names into English for the purposes of titles is a very bad idea, as it would leave many well known spacecraft with unrecognisable titles, would be a logistical nightmare, and would reduce accuracy since in many cases the translated name is never used." --GW… 16:31, 18 August 2010 (UTC)
