Dr. Singh's comment on this article

edit

Dr. Singh has reviewed this Wikipedia page, and provided us with the following comments to improve its quality:

Comment 1. The current Punjab came into existence in November 1, 1966 and is now the land of three rivers (not five rivers). It was land of five rivers during the period of Maharaja Ranjit Singh rule. When it was divided in 1947, the Indian Punjab was land of four rivers, that is, Ravi, Beas, Satluj and Jamuna. After division of Punjab in 1966 it is now land of three rivers. This historical fact needs correction.

Comment2. It was highest per capita income state till end of 20th century but now ranked 7th in terms of per capita income.

Comment 3. There are quite a few typographical errors and it also needs upgradation like completion of some electricity producing plant.

We hope Wikipedians on this talk page can take advantage of these comments and improve the quality of the article accordingly.

Jeevan's Critique of "Economy of Punjab" Page

edit

1. General Comments:

  • This page is rightfully marked as a "Start-Class" article of "High Importance". Though the page makes a noteworthy attempt at thoroughly diving into the economy of Punjab, it is lacking a depth of information. Punjab is a diverse region of India, and although the article makes a good effort in organizing each of the major industries and facets of the Punjabi economy, the page could use a deeper level of insight.
  • Example A: The Green Revolution of India, which took place primarily in Punjab, is not explicitly mentioned.
  • Example B: A map of Punjab could be useful for readers.
  • Example C: Discussing the major cities more closely would help strengthen the article.

2. Is each fact referenced with an appropriate, reliable reference?

  • There are many parts of the article which could use additional, reliable source material in order to strengthen the page.
  • Example: The "important industries" portion of the article is in dire need of source material; in fact it is explicitly stated in a template message.

3. Is any information out of date? Is anything missing that could be added?

  • The GDP portion of the page only goes as far as 2011 and is the main topic in need of an update.
  • Pretty much the whole article could use some updating - nothing especially urgent though.
  • Please look to the examples under Point #1 of this critique for some directions to take in terms of missing information
