Talk:EMV/Archives/2018

Suggested amendment to the definition of EMV

Good afternoon,

iseepr is the appointed PR agency for EMVCo, the global technical body that facilitates the worldwide interoperability and acceptance of secure payment transactions. We read with interest your Wikipedia entry titled ‘EMV’.

We wanted to take this opportunity to let you know that EMV® is a registered word mark and not an abbreviation for Europay, Mastercard and Visa. Today, the technical body’s members comprise of American Express, Discover, JCB, Mastercard, UnionPay and Visa. To find out more visit: About EMVCo.

To ensure that the Wikipedia page is factually correct, please can you remove the reference to Europay, Mastercard and Visa as an abbreviation of EMV®? Today, EMV® is defined by EMVCo as a technology toolbox that enables globally interoperable secure payments across face-to-face and remote environments.

If there is an opportunity to use the registration mark (®) this would also be appreciated, but I understand that is not always possible within a website’s guidelines.

If you have any questions on this, please don’t hesitate to contact the EMVCo press team at media@emvco.com.

Kind regards,

Thanks for your careful approach. I have moved the explanation of the acronym to the history section. −Woodstone (talk) 16:17, 30 August 2018 (UTC)
