Canada Day
editThis article says nothing about his role in the renaming of Dominion Day as Canada Day. IMHO this was his most significant accomplishment as an MP. A quotation from Michael Valpy of the Globe and Mail would be a major improvement to this article.Rdmoore6 (talk) 18:36, 11 December 2016 (UTC)
Move discussion in progress
editThere is a move discussion in progress on Talk:Arthur Brown (Utah senator) which affects this page. Please participate on that page and not in this talk page section. Thank you. —RMCD bot 00:15, 15 September 2018 (UTC)
David Smith Centre on Bronson Avenue
editBack in the day; it was a youth drop-in centre, but maybe had other services too. It was on the west side, between the Canal and Carling... 184.147.89.192 (talk) 20:23, 2 March 2022 (UTC)
Requested move 30 August 2023
edit- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: Moved for all except for David Smith. Opposition was primarily to David Smith's nomination. The nomination for the other page moves was not opposed by the consensus established. (closed by non-admin page mover) – robertsky (talk) 00:44, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
David Smith (Canadian senator) → David Smith (senator)- John Sutherland (Canadian senator) → John Sutherland (senator)
- John Hemphill (U.S. senator) → John Hemphill (senator)
- William Hughes (U.S. senator) → William Hughes (senator)
- Richard Stockton (U.S. senator) → Richard Stockton (senator)
– These titles exhibit WP:OVERPRECISION. They contain an unnecessary degree of disambiguation by including the identification of the country in which the person held the identified role. See the somewhat-related recent discussion for Talk:Joseph Brennan (senator)#Requested move 8 August 2023. The two of these that have blue-linked proposed target titles are reverts back to old titles after renamings five years ago by a user who has been indef-blocked and globally locked for sockpuppetry and had "repeatedly and occasionally disruptively made edits on political figures". — BarrelProof (talk) 23:31, 30 August 2023 (UTC) — Relisting. – robertsky (talk) 03:14, 8 September 2023 (UTC)
- Comment did you check to see if there are other senators by these names? Or did you do a pagename search? -- 67.70.25.175 (talk) 04:45, 31 August 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose "David Smith" move -- David Brock Smith is a state senator and David Smith (Australian Capital Territory politician) is an Australian senator. -- 67.70.25.175 (talk) 04:45, 31 August 2023 (UTC)
- Yes, it looks like that one is a mistake. Thank you for noticing that. I struck it out above. I did some checking, but apparently not enough. — BarrelProof (talk) 08:00, 31 August 2023 (UTC)
- Comment John Sutherland (New South Wales politician) was a member of the Legislative Council (state senate) -- 67.70.25.175 (talk) 04:45, 31 August 2023 (UTC)
- The article does not refer to him as a senator, and the article about the New South Wales Legislative Council does not refer to the institution as a senate and does not refer to the members of the council as senators. Are they referred to as senators? — BarrelProof (talk) 07:53, 31 August 2023 (UTC)
- Aussie here from his State... No, he's not referred to as a senator, so he doesn't make the proposed article title for the Canadian ambiguous. But good question. Andrewa (talk) 14:50, 7 September 2023 (UTC)

- Comment Richard Stockton (Continental Congressman) was a member of the Provincial Council (colonial state senate); his son i the U.S. senator article topic -- 67.70.25.175 (talk) 04:45, 31 August 2023 (UTC)
- The article does not refer to him as a senator, and the article about the New Jersey Provincial Council does not refer to the institution as a senate and does not refer to the members of the council as senators. It only says the council "was a predecessor to the modern New Jersey Senate". Are they referred to as senators? — BarrelProof (talk) 07:53, 31 August 2023 (UTC)

- Comment there's something wrong with the Talk:Joseph Brennan (senator)#Requested move 8 August 2023 discussion, it says all the other topics are Irish, which is wrong, a U.S. state senator John O'Neill (congressman) is not an Irish topic, John O'Neill (Irish senator) shouldn't have been moved. -- 67.70.25.175 (talk) 04:53, 31 August 2023 (UTC)
- Yes, there seems to have been one mistake (out of six articles) in that RM. — BarrelProof (talk) 08:00, 31 August 2023 (UTC)
Support per WP:RECOGNIZABLE, which says the topics of articles should be recognizable from the title to anyone familiar the topic, and WP:CONCISE, which the current titles do not meet because they are overly precise, per nom. —В²C ☎ 05:04, 31 August 2023 (UTC)Oppose. It appears nom did not check for ambiguous uses. There are at least three David Smith senators, and this one is certainly not the (partial) PT based onpage views. This needs more research. —В²C ☎ 05:04, 31 August 2023 (UTC)- Support. Okay. Per my original Support, with David Smith omitted. —-В²C ☎ 05:11, 12 September 2023 (UTC)
- Support per nom, with David Smith omitted.--Ortizesp (talk) 21:24, 9 September 2023 (UTC)
