Talk:David Ruffin

Spin Off

edit

I wouldn't really call the Supremes a spin-off. I'd say that ended with the Primettes.

Marriage / children

edit

I have removed (in toto) the following paragraphs from the article. Can somebody revisit this situation and produce the definitive edition, with appropriate citations. Thank you,

===Personal Life===

Ruffin had a stormy relationship with singer Tammi Terrell, and later had a relationship with Gail Martin. Ruffin was married three times and had four children: Cheryl, Nedra, David Jr. and Mone. His ex-wives were Joy Hamilton, Sandra Ruffin.

Correction: David Ruffin was only married twice - to Saundra Ruffin and Joy Hamilton, respectively. Out of the union with his first wife, Saundra, he had three daughters. He also had a son, but the mother was never married to David Ruffin and never used the last name "Ruffin" until after his death. Her name is Genna Sapia.

death

edit

The article first says that he OD'd, then it says he was murdered in the next section. I don't know which it was but maybe someone should fix it?

It seems that the family disagrees with the official finding that his death was an adverse reaction to too much crack cocaine and feel that he was murdered, presumably for a large amount of money (from his recently completed European tour with Eddie Kendricks and Dennis Edwards) he was alleged by them to be carrying, although there is no existing evidence for any of this. Someone should also straighten out the death chronology given here, as it states 2 entirely different versions in the same paragraph. At least put in who is contending that each of these versions is the truth. 74.72.216.115 (talk) 19:11, 12 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

why was he in Philadelphia when he died?

edit

Is there an official source that ever clarified what he was doing in Philadelphia when he died? Is there an online death certificate? Many fans that admire him would appreciate this information for closure. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 141.156.166.127 (talk) 07:53, 16 April 2007 (UTC).Reply

Regarding Otis Williams's representation of Ruffin's death: Williams does give an accurate account of Ruffin's death in his autobiography. The only place the untruthful version is told is in the miniseries.

Thanks for this, but I was requesting factual info on why he was in Philadelphia at the time of his death. Yes, the miniseries version is in question, but he did die in Philadelphia. Was he there for performance or was this his home? 138.88.151.168 07:50, 22 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

He had reportedly been living with woman in Philly on and off for about 2 years, and was also reportedly making a video there at the time of his death as part of his collaboration with Eddie Kendricks and Dennis Edwards. 74.72.216.115 (talk) 19:14, 12 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

David Ruffin was living in Philadelphia at the time of his death with girlfriend Diane Showers.

Barbara Martin

edit

I don't think Barbara Martin of The Supremes and Barbara Gail Martin, the daughter of Dean Martin, are the same. Please correct or state the source. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.85.57.27 (talk) 13:43, 31 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Marvin Gaye Quote

edit

Can someone verify the Marvin Gaye quote? The exact same quote is on the Levi Stubbs page. I doubt he said the exact same thing about both singers.

It's verified in the source that follows it - "I heard in (his voice) a strength my own voice lacked," said Marvin Gaye, who added that Ruffin's work "made me remember that when a lot of women listen to music, they want to feel the power of a real man.". The quote on Stubb's page appears to be sourced as well so I presume one of the sources is incorrect, someone just threw a source in for the Stubbs quote, or Gaye was just highly unoriginal when it came to compliments. I'll try to find the Stubbs source to verify it. Pinkadelica 11:56, 21 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
