Having had a brief look at this, it is some way off GA standard. Some issues:

  • Inadequate citations, which is a major one. All the information in the article needs to be cited to reliable sources. However, most of it is uncited. At a minimum, each paragraph should end with a cite for all the material in that paragraph, assuming it all came from a singe source. It may be that several different cites may be required for a paragraph. This needs to happen for the death section, since cite 4 only refers to where he is buried and nothing to do to with how he was killed (as cite 4 covers all the material after cite 3). Have a look at some other GA articles for exemplars
  • Once fully cited, there would be no need for cites in the lead or infobox (since these would be covered by cites from the body).
  • There needs to be a bit more content, it doesn't have a lot; for example, names of parents, what they did, any siblings, what was he doing from the outbreak of war (when he resigned from his job) and his call up in June 1940. What about his first tour - how many missions etc, are his medals on display?... A little context of the formation of 617 Squadron - but not too much since Maltby is the subject of the article. At first blush, Foster could be useful but then I note the author is a relative of Maltby. It is always preferable to use an independent source. Check out Wikipedia:Identifying_reliable_sources
  • The lead needs to be expanded (and the service number here is excessive detail).
  • Abbreviations used without being recited in full at first usage.
  • The KIA icon in the infobox should be against his date of death, not the operation in which he was killed.
  • I would combine the family section with the early life section
  • The "Postwar portrayal" is clumsy; consider finding an alternative heading.
  • have a notes section, then a separate references section. Looking at existing GA articles will show you what I mean.

Although there are a few other minor issues I could point out, and others that I have probably missed on this pass, it probably isn't worthwhile discussing them given the extent of the likely changes that will come out of rectifying the issues mentioned above. Given the amount of work required, it may take you several days. If so, it may be better for me to fail this article so you can carry out the work at your leisure. Once done, you can then renominate it for GA. One final thing, despite the name of the subject of this article, I assume the Malt in your username is just a coincidence. If not, you should review Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. Cheers, Zawed (talk) 07:51, 11 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

Thank you, will fix these. Feel free to fail the article as it might indeed take some time. Maltasj (talk) 07:42, 12 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Maltasj: OK, I will fail the article. I would be happy to have a look at it and make further suggestions/feedback before you resubmit for GA although that may preclude me doing the GA review itself. Cheers, Zawed (talk) 08:15, 12 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
