Unproven allegations
editI have removed unproven allegations, per our policy on biographies of living people; this huge section gives undue weight to the matter regardless of the BLP issue. Comments welcome. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 02:53, 19 February 2018 (UTC)
- No but the allegations themselves are a news story and should be included as such. By your logic we would not mention the allegations against Bill Clinton or Donald Trump since they are unproven, but as such they are part of the public discourse and the historical record. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.174.233.97 (talk) 18:00, 19 February 2018 (UTC)
- Wikipedia is not a newspaper, not a tabloid. We are not obliged to report every story, especially in our biographies of living people. The case for inclusion must be weighed against the potential harm that can be done to a living person. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 19:20, 19 February 2018 (UTC)
I’m sorry but it sounds like this is a personal defense for you Diana. Take a look at any man who has allegations against him right now, namely these unproven allegations against aziz Ansari. Are you going to go censor that article too? http://en.m.wiki.x.io/wiki/Aziz_Ansari?wprov=sfti1 If you are concerned about living people think of the women zwerdling has harmed before you worry about a man who is literally in the New York Times for his alleged behavior. This is censorship! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dontdefendthesemen (talk • contribs) 05:35, 20 February 2018 (UTC) Diana google his name the allegations are everywhere. without them in this entry on wikipedia it looks like a glaring omision. Don't ban this book diana. if this is personal for you it is unethical and you should go remove every unproven factoid on this website otherwise you are giving preferential treatment to someone who could have been a predator. people like you are the reason these men are allowed to stalk this earth. — Preceding unsigned comment added by DannyStopDeleting (talk • contribs) 05:42, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
- Diannaa is but one editor, and cannot fix the entirety of Wikipedia. If she (or I, or anyone else) sees unreferenced content on a biography, we will either add a reference, tag it, or remove it entirely (depending on time and severity of content). However, we're just volunteers and have no obligation to go out of our way to patrol the entirety of Wikipedia in order to find every unsourced infraction. If you can't find a source to back up the text you want to add to the page, then it simply cannot be added. Primefac (talk) 12:20, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
Further discussion
editYes, I see that you have kept the information. Thank you for doing that. Others have edited it out over the years which feels like a censorship that will mislead readers. Harvey's alleged behavior was most definitely on wikipedia well before he was tried and convicted — as are MANY men who have done the same things, but never saw a day in court. Their pages have more context. What other context would you feel comfortable with? In the MPR article the claim is he almost raped a woman. That feels like not undue information if you are a woman who may come in contact with him in the future. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TheeCorrect Or (talk • contribs) 22:29, 7 July 2020 (UTC)
Here's a good example — this man has his own section for the allegations — wouldn't Zwerdling's warrant the same thing? https://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/John_Lasseter#Allegations_of_sexual_misconduct_and_exit_from_Disney/Pixar — Preceding unsigned comment added by TheeCorrect Or (talk • contribs) 22:38, 7 July 2020 (UTC)
- I said this on my talk page as well, but Harvey Weinstein was tried and convicted. Lasseter admitted to the misdeeds. I guess my question is, what do you want to include in this article that's not currently there? Wikipedia is not an advocacy group, and we're not here to
[warn] who may come in contact with him in the future
. I'm not saying that more can't be added, just that we should probably discuss those changes instead of edit warring over the details. Primefac (talk) 13:18, 11 July 2020 (UTC)
