Proseline in History
editAn edit intended to make Daala#History look less like proseline was reverted: "the history of codec is easier to overview in older version". Perhaps I'm not understanding the logic behind that essay. --Damian Yerrick (talk) 18:10, 30 November 2013 (UTC)
- It was just a detailed list of blog posts on the Xiph.Org website anyway. Maybe it's nice to have those linked somewhere for further reading, but I don't think that the posting of a blog entry is a relevant step in the history of the format. I replaced it with a summary.--Flugaal (talk) 12:32, 7 August 2015 (UTC)
Lossless mode?
editWill there be a lossless mode available? Bumblebritches57 (talk) 04:30, 18 January 2015 (UTC)
- I just installed the Daala source code and according to the encoder_example help text, it does support a lossless mode. Proof: http://i.imgur.com/N67UGuh.png Bumblebritches57 (talk) 06:15, 18 January 2015 (UTC)
"Will there be" somehow asks for a look into the crystal ball. The format is far from being finalized.--Flugaal (talk) 12:34, 7 August 2015 (UTC)
submission of Daala to IETF
edit- “On March 25, 2015, Daala was proposed to the IETF for their Internet Video Codec (NETVC) video standard.”
In fact, Daala is not proposed as a whole, only individual coding techniques are. There is a comprehensive list of all official submissions that clearly shows that. Additionally,
- none of the given references mentions the 25th of March,
- in March there was merely a presentation on Daala given to the working group,
- official submissions of Daala-related documents took place in June and July,
- IETF does not “rubberstamp” (as they say) any one submitted format proposal, but instead freely develop something different out of the input they get.
I edited that sentence accordingly once again.--Flugaal (talk) 12:45, 7 August 2015 (UTC)
- Daala was presented as a candidate at IETF 92 and there are now two references in support of that. --GrandDrake (talk) 03:09, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
I fail to see how those references support that.--Flugaal (talk) 07:29, 15 August 2015 (UTC)
- The Daala presentation at IETF 92 would be one reference and the tom's hardware article that covers it would be the second reference. Also I have added a statement that refers to testing of tools from both Daala and Thor. --GrandDrake (talk) 02:30, 24 August 2015 (UTC)
