When does BoM's BT consider Peter to have formed? Was it really when they issued the first advisory? No change post-analysis? What did BoM officially call it? Also, specify UTC time for first JTWC point
I already mentioned BoM's (BOM?) BT start time. TTBOMK, it was when their first advisory. Do you want me to add in IBTRACS or something similar to verify that? I added the UTC time for JTWC's first point--12george1 (talk) 04:30, 18 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
"and thus the United States-based Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) indicates" - why present tense?
"Early on 30 December, the JTWC indicated that the storm peaked as a Category 1 cyclone with 1-minute maximum sustained winds of 95 km/h (60 mph)." - 60 mph isn't a C1 cyclone according to JTWC. That being said, you should indicate what type of category when you mention categories.
Yes it is a C1 cyclone, unless JTWC isn't 1-minute. I'm not understanding that second part. Do you want me to mention and wikilink the AUS/SPAC scale?--12george1 (talk) 04:30, 18 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
"According to BOM, Peter peaked with 10-minute maximum sustained winds of 110 km/h (70 mph) and a minimum barometric pressure of 980 mbar (29 inHg) on 31 December, with the latter estimated using the Dvorak technique." - so the pressure but not the winds were estimated by Dvorak? Then how were the winds estimated?
"The Darwin Tropical Cyclone Warning Centre (TCWC) in Northern Territory issued a cyclone warning for the coast of Arnhem Land from the Wessel Islands to Port Roper, located near the mouth of the Roper River." - when?
There could be a bit more about how the storm caused the highest rainfall. Check for meteorological journals for Mount Bellenden Ker, whether orographical processes caused such a high rainfall total.
"Many creeks and rivers, such as the Herbert, north and south Johnstone" - it actually took me looking at the edit window to get what this meant. You should say something like "the north and south branches of the Johnstone" or something. The way it's written makes Johnstone look like a town
"Much of the damage occurred to newly planted sugar cane, approximately 70 to 90 percent of which had been lost in North Queensland." - so 70-90% of the overall sugar cane lost due to the storm was in North Queensland? Or 70-90% of North Queensland's sugar cane was damaged?
One major thing to pick up on, there should be no mention of the JTWC warning on Peter in this article since they did not warn on any tropical cyclones in the Southern Hemisphere in 1979. Also i have an objection to using this to say that Peter dropped 2,517 millimetres (99.1 in) of rain at Mount Bellenden Ker, when its not attributed to Peter on that page. The BoM also note that its only 1140 mm. That being said i think some further investigation of this rainfall record is required to make sure its valid since Peter had "dissipated" during January 2.Jason Rees (talk) 14:16, 23 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
I would also have a dig through Trove itself to find several newspaper articles about Peter including one on Emergency food-drops to people stranded by floods.Jason Rees (talk) 15:26, 23 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
