Many Errors

This page has many factual errors. For starters, Cyberdog works with Mac OS 7 and Mac OS 8, but not Mac OS 9. Secondly, Internet Explorer began shipping with Mac OS versions as early as 8.0. Furthermore, Cyberdog does support Java Script, I believe somewhere around version 1.5.x-ish. I'm not exactly sure right now, but can find out later on one of my machines. Cyberdog also had quite a few advanced plug-ins written by third parties to try to keep it as modern as possible, although eventually it was abandoned, and since it requies OpenDoc (which is incompatible with OS 9) - the software cannot run on essentially any Macintosh built since late 1999. No. Cyberdog and OpenDoc do work with Mac OS 9. They work with version 9.0 and 9.1; they even work with Classic Modes that use Mac OS 9.1 as a basis, as found in Mac OS X version 10.0. Maybe it doesn't work with Mac OS 9.2.2 and the Classic Modes that require that version of Mac OS 9. --Charles Gaudette 20:15, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

It works just fine in Mac OS 9. In fact, I ran Cyberdog 2.0 under OpenDoc 1.2.1 and Mac OS 9.1 on a PowerBook G3 Kanga earlier this evening. I don't know if it runs under 9.2.2 or not, but my OS 9.1 is using the OpenTransport and TCP/IP stack from 9.2.2, and it's not a problem. Jsc1973 03:59, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

As far as I remember it does not work out of the box in 9.x. One has to install OpenDoc as a separate component first, and at one stage OpenDoc was no longer on the installation disks, but had to be downloaded separately. I think. Correct. OpenDoc has to be installed separately in Mac OS 9. It is not provided by default with OS 9 because Apple had abandoned that platform by that time. Jsc1973 02:33, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

Could somebody find out what rendering engine, the Cyberdog web browser was based on? RaviC

I don't have any exact dates, but I was an avid user in the mid 1990s. I still have mails written in Cyberdog November 1996 - April 1997. I'm pretty sure the rendering engine was built from scratch by Apple. That was one of the problems. It had absolutely no support for javascript. That didn't matter for most sites when it was launched, but the number of sites which required javascript grew quickly. Apart from the other dilemmas, Apple had to make up their minds if they were to invest in building a javascript engine or not. Mlewan 17:30, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

default browser?

Was Cyberdog ever pre-installed, much less the default? I seem to recall IE replacing Netscape as the default. Those were the early days for internet support being bundled at all. Potatoswatter 20:33, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

Good question. I hope someone has a definite answer. As far as I remember, Cyberdog never was the default browser. It was a brilliant concept, but you always had a feeling it was not quite ready. I do not think Apple ever dared replace the big browsers with Cyberdog. Mlewan 21:49, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

Copy & paste from OpenDoc??

The last section ("Cancellation") is an almost 100% copy of the same section in "OpenDoc". Is that intended? Couldn't we just refer to that? It is quite irritating to read a copy-and-paste section for me. The-Me (talk) 11:54, 25 August 2011 (UTC)
