Suggestions
edit-Would think there should be something about Voodoo and Madame Laveaux (there isn't even an article about her!). "...Madame Marie Laveaux’s House of Voodoo, a well lit plasticine version of marketable Louisiana culture" [1] --Justfred 05:45, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
- Actually there is a Marie Laveau article. But you're right; there's nothing in this article (or in New Orleans or History of New Orleans). As a New Orleanian, I tend to groan and think of the subject as something of interest only to tourists, but perhaps some editor less jaded than I could add something either here or in the history article, preferably citing something more concrete than the above link. -- Muffuletta 15:04, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
Language
editThis section really deserves some cleaning up. Are there any other linguistics who could assist? Currently the section seems to mostly refer to the Y'at dialect without outright saying that it does. L (talk) 06:53, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
"noo-or-LEENZ"
edit"The tendency among people around the world to say "noo-or-LEENZ" stems from the use of that pronunciation by singers and songwriters, who find it easy to rhyme." Nonsense. It has more to do with the typical non-US pronounciation of Orleans. Throughout the UK, Canada and Australia, it was historically pronounced this way. This is succumbing somewhat, with widespread media emulating the preference of the locals. Homo architectus (talk) 18:58, 28 September 2011 (UTC)
