Talk:Covert racism

This article is gibberish

Can't we get something rational here, if indeed "covert racism" exists? Avocats (talk) 07:48, 31 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

The arts are not always rational subjects, yet we give them their place here. It's a belief system that is often falls within the context of social science & "justice" culture - it ought to remain on wikipedia regardless of how personally unappealing I find this page. 121.45.186.145 (talk) 00:26, 28 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

It's been tagged for more than a year. I don't think people who write about and believe seriously in "covert racism" and "facts" are compatible, so it's hopeless. Electricbassguy (talk) 09:50, 21 January 2010(UTC)

As someone pointed out, there are enough academics studying "covert racism". --Nemogbr (talk) 11:23, 21 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

I deleted one of the early paragraphs that had no citation and contained several inaccuracies. Electricbassguy (talk)

Understood. Just did a google search and there are over 876,000 entries regarding "covert racism". Never realised that the terminology is used quite that much. --Nemogbr (talk) 22:27, 21 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Can we at least tag this as lacking NPOV? I mean, it states white privilege as a fact, and accuses all white people of "trying to hide" their privilege. This article was clearly written by a racist. 67.160.200.220 (talk) 23:33, 19 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Just A Comment about Police Racism

edit

I believe that there was once an article called Police Racism, but that this article has been removed. It sounds to me like a significant proportion of what this article relates could be included within that article (which I'm quite sure used to exist – though, given who may or may not be in control of wikipedia, it may very well be the case that even the records of deletion for this article have been removed. )

Would anyone care to comment?

Of course, for Police Racism, in comparison to covert racism, there might be more objective forms of evidence – incidents of unreasonable use of police force (aka Police Brutality), ethnic demographics with a comparison against IQ, etc... It would seem that this is something which is an objectively verifiable phenomenon (though that doesn't mean that covert racism is not objectively verifiable – but just try figuring out which police officers to contact within your local address, and you'll understand difficulties which are associated with obtaining evidence to verify anything that the police do these days - they at least brag about who they shoot dead).

There is an article regarding the Rodney King beating and resultant riots. I have included a link to that page with the covert racism article, regarding Police racism. --Nemogbr (talk) 13:34, 20 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Race-bending

edit

(cur) (prev) 17:25, 12 February 2010 Binksternet (talk | contribs) (24,082 bytes) (trim to absolute minimum, rename heading "Race-bending" with a hyphen.) (undo)

The above user has deleted most of the entry titled Racebending in the article covert racism. The section is now titled race-bending and from a couple of paragraphs it is now down to only one sentence.

This sentence might be an insufficient context for those unfamiliar with the subject. --Nemogbr (talk) 16:30, 13 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Replied Wikipedia:Content_noticeboard#Race-bending to your multiple posting. Binksternet (talk) 17:44, 13 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

"The practice we’ve dubbed “racebending” on this site refers to situations where A) A movie studio/publisher, etc. has changed the ethnicity of a character B) with a resultant discriminatory impact on an underrepresented cultural community and actors from that community (reinforcement of glass ceilings, loss of opportunity, etc.)"

note that this is the excepted definition of racebending, minus examples. i would like to know who thought it would be a good idea to reduce that to one sentence that doesn't even cover the scope of what racebending truly is. that decision reeks of, not only lack of life experience(ever seen the difference between original stories and their movie adaptations?), but lack of research as well.Silvercell2--Silvercell2 (talk) 19:37, 26 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Removing tags

edit

The discussion for this article is by now two years old and does not reflect its current state. The article is well-sourced and with a few exceptions (e.g. the opening paragraph) has a neutral POV. If people have specific concerns about language, we can reinstate the "cleanup" tag. Ninestraycats (talk) 14:07, 22 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
