Extension and historical development of the article

I am trying to expand this article, first in Spanish and then translating it into English. It is about researching and finding the historical data for an institution that is almost 5 centuries old. Dates

Lately there is a kind of edition war in this article. Let's discuss it here.

It is intended to put 1580 as the origin, when most of the sources (those provided by the user who wants to put that date) affirm that in 1580 the Spanish Crown, in its territories (New Spain), introduced a postal system.

This article is not about the history of postal mail in what is now Mexico, but about the current public company that provides these services (Correos de México), which was officially created by law in 1986 as "Servicio Postal Mexicano" (Mexican Postal Service) and later renamed as "Correos de Mexico".

Should we add, for example, in the European countries that were then under the Roman Empire, the date on which the Romans began to lay out postal routes? It's a nonsense.

I have to say that there is already a specific article that talks about the postal history of Mexico, where the entire process is detailed up to today (Postage stamps and postal history of Mexico), not just the Spanish colonical era, but also in the pre-Hispanic civilizations. 216.147.106.108 (talk) 08:53, 25 December 2022 (UTC)

The sources state that the CORREOS DE MEXICO has a starting date in the year 1580. Every single one of the four external sources says the same exact thing, so when you say it talks of the “history”, that is exactly what we are after. The history of the Correos de Mexico, which begins in 1580. There is nothing complex about this issue. Also, the anonymous IP has edited the exact same articles as a certain TheRichic user. He is hiding behind an IP address so as to extend his ability to revert edits. Someone should look into this. CMD007 (talk) 11:15, 25 December 2022 (UTC)

This article is about Correos de México, not about the Servicio Postal Mexicano (or whichever postal service existed prior to 1986). Please both of you stop edit-warring or I'll have to ask for actions for both of you. (CC) Tbhotch^™ 17:05, 25 December 2022 (UTC)

The Mexican government website says itself states that the system’s history goes back to 1580. Another source says “La fundación de Correos de México data del año 1580”.

Yet another source states “El Servicio Postal Mexicano (SEPOMEX), mejor conocido como Correos de México, renueva su identidad visual y logotipo.” It’s a renewed logo and name, not a founding. It says “SEPOMEX is better known as Correos de Mexico,” AND “El Servicio Postal Mexicano comenzó su historia en 1580” Its history started in 1580, not the 1980’s. It also says “Desde 2008 adquirió el nombre de Correos de México”, not 1980’s. It changed its name in 2008, wasn’t founded then. If anything, the actual website says here that they have over a hundred years of experience.

The government of Mexico is not a reliable source to discuss the government of Mexico, that's called WP:Primary source. And in itself, it is not a reason to claim "Correos de México" is a +400-year old company. The company was not founded in 1580, the postal service started with the typical basic postal system that year, which are two different things. If "Correos de México" was founded in 1580, it would be easily demonstrable by secondary sources. (CC) Tbhotch^™ 04:03, 7 January 2023 (UTC)
