Housing Costs
editIf the average household income is under $100,000 then how can the people afford houses that cost on average $1,500,000 ? (Corby 22:06, 17 August 2006 (UTC))
- Many of the residents may have bought their houses when the average price was only $500k. -Will Beback 22:40, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
- Most people that live in Coronado rent. Those that own houses have lived in Coronado for years and decades, and bought their houses at significantly lower prices. And there are the fabulously wealthy to consider as well. --Laserbeamcrossfire 22:50, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
- The census tract also covers the military bases in Coronado. According to the 2000 census, 6,540 people in Coronado were living in group quarters (i.e. the military barracks). This accounts for 27.2% of the population of the city. As these individuals generally earn less than the local homeowners, it makes sense that the median household income has been diluted down to only around $100,000. According to SANDAG, at least 10% of households earn in excess of $200,000. This can help explain the high housing prices. (Drewbied3 (talk) 22:05, 14 February 2011 (UTC))
There are also military personnel and military families in Naval housing on the Island, which also affects the averages and other statistics.
Swastika
editWhat about the swastika house complex in Coronado? Can someone drop a couple lines about it?
On September 27, 2007, the Los Angeles Times said "The Navy will spend as much as $600,000 to modify a 40-year-old barracks complex that resembles a swastika from the air, a gaffe that went largely unnoticed before satellite images became easily accessible on the Internet."
I checked through Google Earth, and the swastika is really there (32°40'33.97"N 117° 9'27.66"W). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 200.227.150.68 (talk) 08:03, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
Fact request about notable quests
editPlease see the hotel's History URL. This hotel is very posh and actually maintains a guestbook under glass of past guests. In that URL, you will read that Lindbergh, Monroe and the resort has also seen a steady stream of celebrity visitors - from Charlie Chaplin and Humphrey Bogart to Brad Pitt and Madonna. I would not doubt that the other guests listed have been there. Please see also: Hotel del Coronado and the ghost of Kate Morgan (who is also listed on this page).
If you still have doubts about the other guests, I would recommend the guests listed here and on that webpage be listed and cited. Ronbo76 03:25, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
also the island belongs to Mexico, no the u.s the u.s pays Mexico some sort of "Rent" so that Mexico doest take it back. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.7.94.178 (talk) 04:08, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
I presume you refer to the Coronado Islands, which can be seen from Coronado but are in Mexico.66.159.200.76 (talk) 02:04, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
Image of Hotel del Coronado is wrong
editThe image that is at present shown in this article as of Jan 2021 is completely fabricated. The San Gabriel Mountains are up in Los Angeles. What you should see from that view of the Del is the Coronado Bridge and the San Diego skyline! I have no idea of the source of that image but it should be removed and replaced with an accurate one! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Browneyedgirl65 (talk • contribs) 06:54, 25 January 2021 (UTC)
Placement on the County Map
editCoronado is not attached to the mainland portion of the west side of San Diego County. There is a bay separating it, therefore the current representation of Coronado's placement on the county map is false. The areas of Barrio Logan and even some parts of National City are being highlighted. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.199.176.178 (talk) 20:46, 4 July 2008 (UTC)

editHow about including this:
- An oarfish, which are very rarely seen, was found in late 1996 by US Navy SEAL trainees on the beach here. A photograph of it and the SEALs by LT DeeDee Van Wormeran is on display in bars, restaurants, guesthouses, and markets around Thailand captioned as the Queen of Nagas seized by American Army at Mekhong River, Laos Military Base on June 27, 1973 with the length of 7.80 meters.[1][2]

Military Base Should be Mentioned in the Opening
editIt's a major feature of the Island, not just a minor aspect.
Needs history section
editThe article needs a "history" section. Currently the history information is scattered among the intro, the "geography" section, and other places in the article. I suggest someone pull the information together into a History section, as is done with most cities with a significant history. --MelanieN (talk) 03:50, 29 April 2011 (UTC)

Beach Water Contamination
editFor over 80 years the Tijuana River has dumped sewage and other crap into the United States. It has been an unmitigated ecological disaster. Heavy metal contamination, raw sewage and trash is measured in tens of meters in depth in the TJ River Valley which is a so called natural wildlife preserve.
This is the longest documented ecological issue of any river in the United States and it is not mentioned. It is often overlooked by the US Federal Government and the State of California.
Most of the beaches north (in the USA) of where the Tijuana River enters the Pacific Ocean are contaminated more than 70% of the year like at Imperial Beach. Unhealthful bacteria has been tracked all the way north to the mouth of the San Diego Bay. And occasionally far beyond. The US Navy Seal area in Coronado often can not train with the hazardous crap in the water.
Why has none of this been mentioned? Jrcrin001 (talk) 21:18, 6 July 2023 (UTC)
