Source: The area was believed to be inhabited by evil spirits by the native Americans who lived in the area; early European settlers were also aware of the danger and erected a fence around it to prevent cattle from falling in.

- New enough (created Nov 30). Long enough (> 3500 characters of narrative text). Article is generally well written and sourced, with the exception of the unsourced third paragraph of "Description".
