Status controversy in lead
editNdn59 removed text I recently added to the lead regarding the controversy regarding the tribe's status (the corresponding information in the "Issues" section remains). I feel that this information is sufficiently important to be discussed in the lead. Starting a discussion here. --LukeSurl t c 15:23, 15 May 2014 (UTC)
LukeSurl I felt that the issue refering to the tribe's recognition status is properly addressed in the issues section. Related to the sources and the status of state tribes, CTNEAL is a recognized tribe and has access to certain privileges as such. Theres no proof of fraudulent activity other than the accusation of the cherokee nation. Ndn59

Federal acknowledgement petition
editThe tribe appears to be absent from the lists on the Office of Federal Acknowledgment website [1]. This appears to suggest no petition is currently active. I cannot see any sign on this website that any former petition was denied. --LukeSurl t c 11:55, 4 October 2019 (UTC)
- Responding three years later ;) They filed a letter of intent to petition but never actually filed a complete petition. This appears to be fairly common. Yuchitown (talk) 01:53, 27 January 2022 (UTC)Yuchitown
Citizen
editOxford defines a citizen as "a legally recognized subject or national of a state or commonwealth, either native or naturalized." By no stretch of the imagination is the Cherokee Tribe of Northeast Alabama a nation, state, or commonwealth. The fact that their legitimacy hinges upon recognition from a state, Alabama, indicates that they are not on equal footing as that state nor do they predate the formation of the United States. This group has members. Yuchitown (talk) 16:04, 20 March 2022 (UTC)Yuchitown

Haleyville
editI can't find any WP:SECONDARY, published sources that current the Cherokee Tribe of Northeast Alabama to Halleyville. Besides the group's own website, one website that's actively soliciting donations lists it, but that would be a massive violation of WP:PROMO. Yuchitown (talk) 15:21, 30 March 2024 (UTC)Yuchitown
