A little too literal
editThe formal definition has two misleading points. It defines the CSU as a "line bridging" device, which leads to multiple definitions, none of them quite accurate. It also notes the CSU may perform bit stuffing, which normally occurs only in bit stuffed WAN protocols such as DS2 and DS3. In the more common DS1 form, the associated DSU device is responsible for the data transfer and thus the bit stuffing.
