The score in the away game was 1-1, with John Hartson scoring for Celtic. I have updated this accordingly.Hamishallan (talk) 23:15, 11 January 2010 (UTC)
== Inconsistency ==
According to the results presented in the main content of this article, Celtic F.C. has only played 145 matches in European football, yet the introductory table lists 252 matches. Can anyone explain this inconsistency? DElliott (talk) 10:35, 5 September 2013 (UTC)

I'll take a look at this. I will make straightforward copyedits as I go (please revert if I accidentally change the meaning!) Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 23:06, 17 March 2017 (UTC)
The club is best known for their European Cup final victory over Inter Milan in 1967, becoming the first British team and only Scottish team to win the trophy. - let facts speak for themselves, I'd change to, "The club became the first British team and only Scottish team to win the European Cup, by beating Inter Milan in the 1967 final."- Done (ShugSty 18/3/17)
At the end of the first para of First entries into European competition, you should add that they were beaten on aggregate and eliminated from the competition.Done (ShugSty 18/3/17)
Stevie Chalmers and Ian Young were both sent off, albeit controversially. - "albeit" unnecessary and should be pruned. Maybe add why they were sent off?Done (ShugSty 18/3/17)
- although a last minute Bobby Lennox "goal" was controversially disallowed in the second leg - goal does not need to be in quotes here Done (ShugSty 18/3/17)
why does the last sentence of para 4 of Glory years have so many refs?Sorted (ShugSty 18/3/17)
::but disappointingly were knocked out by the relatively unimpressive East German side, Sachsenring Zwickau - err, I you mean the club played unimpressively in the game not an unimpressive club...? Actually the East Germans were unimpressive (although they did win the tie). I'll have a re-look and try to re-phrase. 20/3/17 - I've now rephrased to "...were knocked out by East German side Sachsenring Zwickau, whose play was unimpressive despite winning the tie.." (ShugSty 20/3/17)

- Overall things look promising. One fiddly issue is the tone of writing - the enthusiasm of writers can be really good for making engaging (rather than dry) prose, but is best done when subtle - let facts speak for themselves. See this for instance. The prose is enthusiastic but I am worried it is a little too effusive in places. Anyway, am reading over. Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 05:51, 19 March 2017 (UTC)

Jumpy text
editThe section headed "Years in the wilderness" has an awkward jump in the text. One paragraph ends talking about Celtic in the 1992-93 UEFA Cup, but the next starts "Under new Head Coach Wim Jansen, Celtic had to negotiate two qualifying rounds to qualify for the first round proper of the 1997–98 UEFA Cup". A casual reading of this could lead to the assumption that Celtic did not play in European competitions between these years, but that is not true as the results later in the article show. Celtic did fail to qualify for Europe for the 1994-1995 season, and possibly this should be specifically mentioned in this section, as a fairly big deal was made of it in Scottish sports media coverage at the time (this is also true of season 1990-1991). Dunarc (talk) 23:49, 8 December 2020 (UTC)
- Yep, this was always a wee gap in the timeline I meant to fill, but never did. Was a pretty horrendous time for Celtic anyway :) But I've now added in a couple of paragraphs about these seasons. ShugSty (talk)13:15, 17 August 2021 (UTC)
Background
editWhy is there a background section on a Celtic page that does not mention Celtic. Surely it is irrelevant to be talking about Hibernian and Rangers in Europe on the Celtic f.c in Europe page.
I think the background should be removed or replaced with Celtic fc were the first British club to win the European Cup. No other background needed for a Celtic in Europe page. 2A02:C7E:14C7:3700:A953:99D0:1FD6:47F2 (talk) 22:13, 2 February 2022 (UTC)
