Houselander's dates
editI just finished reading the section on Caryll Houselander in Mystics, Visionaries & Prophets -- A Historical Anthology of Women's Spiritual Writings, edited by Shawn Madigan, C.S.J., published in 1998 by Fortress Press (or Augsburg Fortress), Minneapolis (Minnesota, U.S.A.), ISBN 0-8006-3145-5. At the beginning of that section, it says her dates are 1901-1949. However, in the WP article, it says she passed away in 1954. Does anyone know anything about this discrepancy?
Also, in that book, Shawn Madigan tells a different story from the one in the article about an experience Houselander had as a teenager that made her not attend a Catholic church for eight years. Perhaps both stories are true. Shall I add this other story?
Third, I just wonder why, in the list of Houselander's quotes at the end of the article, in the second quote the typeface changes from italics to regular font in the middle of the quote. Is that a simple formatting error? CorinneSD (talk) 00:03, 24 May 2014 (UTC)
- I've removed the mass of italics: use sparingly, or words to that effect, says MoS, and I agree. The bits where it came out of italics might have been deliberate ("italics" within italics); what do you think? Rothorpe (talk) 02:41, 25 May 2014 (UTC)
- I assume that the VIAF record (see link at foot of article) is reliable for dates, 1951–54: https://viaf.org/viaf/79284766/
- If Madigan appears to be a generally reliable source despite the date error, by all means add the second account. On the other hand, she may have muddled up more than one detail with a different person. You could try contacting Madigan to ask about her sources; the publisher [1] says "Shawn M. Madigan is Professor of Theology at College of St. Catherine"; aha, [2] says she is emeritus since 2008, but she may still be contactable there. – Fayenatic London 08:34, 25 May 2014 (UTC)
- As for the quotes, I think they should be moved to Wikiquote. – Fayenatic London 17:20, 25 May 2014 (UTC)
