Kororāreka or Kororareka?
editI changed the name Māori name of Russell to Kororāreka as I saw it written like that in another article but it was reverted to Kororareka because apparently Kororāreka is not the official term for it. Is the person who reverted it right or should it be written with the macron? Thomas Norren (talk) 01:56, 17 July 2022 (UTC)
- What matters for Wikipedia are reliable sources. I provided one with my revert that would suggest that we should not have a macron. It’s rare that LINZ doesn’t have it right but it does happen. Schwede66 02:16, 17 July 2022 (UTC)
- Yes but I was told that Māori words should always be written with their macrons which makes me think that this is a mistake, however it is possible that the macron was placed there incorrectly by someone at some point. I think we should leave this thread open here just in case someone with more information comes along. At the very least this thread can prevent other people from readding the macrons unless they have more information about it. Thomas Norren (talk) 03:44, 17 July 2022 (UTC)
- Schwede66 in the article about russell it has a source for why its writen with the accent, should this be changed or is the source reliable and thus this article should be changed? Thomas Norren (talk) 07:20, 17 July 2022 (UTC)
- Good spotting – thank you. I've removed the unreferenced footnote and invited those editors who have that article on their watchlist to join this discussion. Schwede66 10:13, 17 July 2022 (UTC)
