Player information

edit

I have made a new table showing the first team players using a template i found on another page. What do people think of it? is it better or worse than before? --BurtonH0123 (talk) 16:56, 20 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Please use the format as found in the Manual of Style for football clubs. It's a much nicer layout, anyway. Dancarney (talk) 20:30, 20 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

sorry about that :P... BurtonH0123 (talk) 14:57, 21 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Reg Smart

edit
  • Recent editor added note about Reg Smart stepping down from role (unspecified) in early 2006. I cannot find any verification for this elsewhere on the web - could this statement be clarified? -- MightyWarrior 12:03, 27 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
The official website lists Baker as the current chairman and Smart as life president, so I believe this information to be correct. Although I can't find any verification for the fact that he resigned in early 2006, at http://www.cambridge-united.premiumtv.co.uk/page/News/Feature/0,,10423%7E793946,00.html it does state that Baker was named president on 20/02/2006. --Oli 22:21, 15 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
Yes, but Reg Smart ceased to be chairman (stepped down from board of directors) in 2002; see http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/c/cambridge_utd/1789540.stm. So what role did he step down from in 2006?? -- MightyWarrior 23:48, 16 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
  • Is it realistic to expect that the list of current players can be kept sufficiently up-to-date? From the club's official web-site it looks as though a number of players listed in this article have now moved on. -- MightyWarrior 12:03, 27 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Headings

edit

Seems to be too many sub-headings in the history section (more of User:AlexWilkes edits). Can I suggest that the sections are combined, rather than having one sentence per heading? WikiGull 13:50, 13 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

  • I did do this some time ago when there were many more headings, but I would agree there are still too many, especially the first few which could probably come under one 'older' history section. Why not have a go WikiGull? Oli 15:50, 20 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

New Kit

edit

Cambridge United have today released a new Home kit and as I am not very experianced with Editing football related articals I am going to suggest someone else to do it. The new kit looks like this,

The away colours need changing. The away kit is light blue, the 3rd kit is white.

Women's Team

edit

I've added a short sentence about this under players in line with a lot of other club pages, but I can't find much information about it. I think it would be beneficial to have something about this if any information can be found. Oli 22:32, 15 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

History

edit

I think the History section is too long and needs condensing, with a longer history (including more pre-league era information) being created on a separate linked-to page. I will start to do this unless anyone has any objections? Oli 22:36, 15 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fandom

edit

An unnamed editor today (21/08/2007) added a section entitled 'Fandom' to the article. I've since removed this as there's already a section on 'Supporters', and most of the information read like an advertisement (price and sale information) and was thus unsuitable for Wikipedia (see WP:SOAP). I've put a more objective sentence on 'United in Endeavour' in the supporters section which I think is more appropriate. Oli 22:59, 21 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

New Current Season Page

edit

I have created a new page showing this season for Cambridge United. I am slightly unsure that i have included everything, in particular transfers, as for me the Cambridge utd website has not been working for me. Could somebody please take a look at it and help take it forward. By the way, i am happy to keep the results table up to date throughout the season so this is not an issue. I'm going to review the article momentarily, I'll give it a read through now. Miyagawa (talk) 10:47, 5 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

References
  • Date formats need to all be the same, at the moment you appear to have three different ways of showing the dates - 2006-12-16, July 13, 2012 and 20 July 2007. Doesn't really matter which one you pick as it's editors preference, but there needs to only be one format across the entire article.
  • Citations 56, 58, 59, 60 and 61 are bare urls.
  • You've listed the BBC Sport website as both "BBC Sport" and "BBC Sport Online". Probably needs to just be reduced down to "BBC Sport".

Done Ilikeeatingwaffles (talk) 07:46, 7 August 2012 (UTC) Having to head out unexpectedly, so will finish this review when I'm back in later on. Miyagawa (talk) 10:50, 5 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Ok, back now, here's the rest of the review:

References (part 2)
  • In some places the official website is listed as cambridgeunited.com, and some as www.cambridgeunited.com - just needs to choose which one to go with, or perhaps Cambridge United Official Website or something.

  Done Delsion23 (talk) 12:17, 1 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

  • Cite #3 needs to have more formatting (access date, website etc)

  Done Delsion23 (talk) 12:17, 1 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

  • Does #13 have a url?

  Done Delsion23 (talk) 12:17, 1 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

  • #27 needs a website

{{done} Delsion23 (talk) 12:17, 1 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Lead
  • Should expand football to association football in the first line.

Not done article is written in British English where "football" means association football if there is no further disambiguation. See the version of the article Arsenal F.C. that was made a FA [1]. Ilikeeatingwaffles (talk) 19:31, 5 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

  • Even in British English there is more than one form of football. See Association football and Rugby football. The Arsenal F.C. article makes it clear that it is an English Premier League football club in the lead, and so it can only be one type of football. Give that, I think either a change to association football or to state the league that Cambridge United current sits in prior to saying football in the same manner as the Arsenal article would be appropriate. Miyagawa (talk) 10:13, 12 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
    • Text of the Arsenal article reads "Arsenal Football Club (also known as Arsenal, The Arsenal or The Gunners) are a football club based in north London. They play in the FA Premier League " text of the Cambridge United article is "Cambridge United Football Club is a professional football club from Cambridge, England. They compete in the Conference National...". In both cases is states that it's a football club, then tells you what division they play in - the structure is identical. Ilikeeatingwaffles (talk) 17:45, 12 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

  Done Ilikeeatingwaffles (talk) 19:31, 5 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

  • "missing out on being founding members of the Premier League" perhaps "missing out on being promoted to the first tier and becoming founding members of the Premier League"?

  Done Ilikeeatingwaffles (talk) 19:31, 5 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

  • The bit about FA reserve team rules isn't mentioned in the main body of the article, so it needs to be copied into it. Then you can remove the citation from the lead as it'll be cited in the body.

  Done Ilikeeatingwaffles (talk) 19:31, 5 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

History
  • Last couple of lines of the first paragraph are uncited.
  • Second and third paragraphs are missing citations too.

  Done Delsion23 (talk) 11:55, 1 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Colours and badge
  • Last two paragraphs are uncited.

  Done Delsion23 (talk) 11:55, 1 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Stadium
  • The last line of the last paragraph is uncited.

  Done Delsion23 (talk) 11:55, 1 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Supporters
  • The end of the first paragraph is uncited.

  Done Delsion23 (talk) 12:27, 1 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Players
  • Source needs to be as a citation rather than a piped external link, and if it's the source for all of those tables, it needs to be outside of the technical staff table.

  Done Delsion23 (talk) 11:55, 1 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Reserves
  • End of the last two paragraphs are uncited.

  Done Delsion23 (talk) 11:55, 1 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Notable managers
  • The MOS way of doing the years is to present them as 1974-76 rather than 1974-1976 unless of course it changes century, so 1999-2003 would be the way of doing it instead of 1999-03. So the dates need to be updated.
  • And the information in the table needs citations too.

  Done Ilikeeatingwaffles (talk) 22:18, 30 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Honours
  • Needs a source

  Done Delsion23 (talk) 11:55, 1 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Going to place this one on hold to see if this work can be done in a reasonable period of time. Once the citation/referencing is sorted, I'll do a proper review of the prose. Miyagawa (talk) 15:42, 5 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

It has been two weeks since the most recent edit to this page, and the most recent edits to the article by the nominator were on August 13, when three refs were supplied for the Honours section. What is the current status of the review? Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 19:34, 30 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
I'm going to close this one down, it can be renominated when the nominator has finished the comments above. Miyagawa (talk) 09:10, 1 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Before you close it, I'm willing to give it a go and help. Delsion23 (talk) 11:57, 1 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
