Fair use rationale for Image:Cfpllogo90s.JPG
editImage:Cfpllogo90s.JPG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
CHWI-TV call-sign meaning
editI know that CHWI-TV means CHatham and WIndsor, but on http://www.crtc.gc.ca/ENG/transcripts/1998/tb0613.htm, one of the representatives for CHUM Limited (then the owner) in 1998 said that CHUM Limited "affectionately nicknames CHWI-TV and its transmitter as "Chewy". RingtailedFox • Talk • Contribs 20:49, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
- That's equivalent to referring to the Canadian Security Intelligence Service as "see-sis" — it's just an alternate way to pronounce the name of the thing, not a meaning. Bearcat (talk) 07:24, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
Please note that until a rebranding of A-Channel as "MuchTV" or "CHUM TV" actually happens, it is not necessary (or even appropriate, under WP:CRYSTAL) to discuss it in each individual station's article in addition to discussing it in A-Channel. Please refer to Talk:A-Channel for discussion if you disagree. Bearcat (talk) 20:00, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

- Call Shaw Communications and ask them. This isn't the place to ask, because nobody here will know anything until somebody from Shaw makes an announcement in the media. Bearcat (talk) 22:12, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
Please cite this article as a reason WHY Shaw backed out -- details!

Quote: "It just wasn't something we could do given the facilities that were there," Ken Stein, senior vice-president of Shaw's corporate and regulatory affairs, said Friday in an interview.
"We decided that it wasn't worth $1."
As Shaw staff toured the A Channel premises in Windsor, they found not a typical television station, but a bare-bones operation that relied on facilities in other parts of the province to keep the wheels turning and the programming on the air.
One CTV staff member likened it to one giant newsroom with editing suites, reporters and anchors all forced to chip in to produce the newscasts.
The guts of Windsor's operations were miles away in Toronto, where a master control centre flipped switches to run commercials and keep the whole thing on the air.
Even the actual control room, where a director would cut between cameras, wasn't in town - it was more than an hour's drive away, in London, Ont.
Windsor is missing at least half of the infrastructure required to put a typical show on the air, said the CTV staffer, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to discuss the deal.
The Windsor operations still managed to churn out eight hours of local programming each week, with the rest of the 24-hour schedule packed with high profile shows from CTV's headquarters.
A new buyer would've had to fill all of that dead time with new shows - a pricey proposition at best.
Suffice to say, Shaw executives knew right then that buying the Windsor station would be like buying a car without an engine. The story was similar in Brandon.
DT info
editIt's amazing a station that's actually scheduled to go off the air get a DT section while CFPL-TV (although may not live to see past it's Aug. 31, 2010; a year past it's 1 year 2009 renewal by parent company) doesnt' have any info.

- CFPL-TV is supposed to flash-cut to digital on VHF 10, HOWEVER, it is very close to WOIO-DT in Cleveland, and may have to find another channel if they cause undue interference with each other (despite WOIO-DT being severely directional towards the south, with a null to Canada). CHWI-TV will flash-cut on UHF 16, while CHWI-TV-60 was given a different allocation. Instead of converting to digital on UHF 25, it will now move from 60 to 26, and convert to digital on that channel, with WLPC-LP switching to digital on 40 as WLPC-LD. It was required to move by the FCC due to its status as an unprotected low-power station, and CHWI-TV-60 being a full-powered repeater (despite its low power levels).
- To answer the previous question, Shaw cable backed out becuase they were basically buying half a television station. The master-control facilties are at CFPL-TV in London and at CFTO-TV in Toronto, and the station has only basic editing capabilities. It always was a semi-satellite of CFPL-TV, and if South West Ontario Broadcasting wasn't allowed to purchase CFPL-TV back in 1993, it would not even be able to launch CHWI-TV! Now, another issue is that the station would need two digital transmitters (one for each transmitter), which is another large monetary setback. I don't blame Shaw Cable for saying "uh, no thanks, we'll pass" after they inspected the three stations. CKNX-TV was similar (but without any repeaters). CKX-TV was even worse off, with one main transmitter, and three repeaters, all scattered throughout sparsely-populated areas, and had to compete with Winnipeg stations. CKX-TV never had a chance. CFPL-TV will probably survive as an enlargened "/A\ Southwest Ontario", while CHWI-TV will see its two transmitters gradually turned into full-time repeaters, a la CKNX-TV. Alternately, CFPL-TV may end up as a repeater of CKCO-TV, but this is doubtful. We'll have to wait and see. For all we know, it could end up being sold to Shaw and repeating CIII-TV in Paris! London's always had poor reception of Global :P RingtailedFox • Talk • Contribs 23:44, 14 December 2010 (UTC)
CHWI studios
editUnfortunately, I no longer live in Windsor, so I can't do this myself, but think someone could go out and take a new picture of their downtown studio (which I presume will probably have CTV branding on it now)?
