People named Buffet
editRegarding the notice at the top "Not to be confused with musician Jimmy Buffett." There's also the famous investor, Warren Buffet; is a disambiguation page linked to from the top of this article appropriate? - RedWordSmith 03:19, 9 Sep 2004 (UTC)
- Also a grammar word for repeatedly hitting. see [1]
- Why would anyone confuse Jimmy Buffett with a Buffet. That's an insult to the reader's intelligence. 57.135.233.22 (talk) 15:10, 15 August 2024 (UTC)
Running buffet?
editWhat is a running buffet? How does it differ from a regular buffet? Edward 18:21, 25 December 2005 (UTC)
- Possible one where you don't pay at the end? Slavedriver 16:36, 28 May 2006 (UTC)
MGM Buffet
editThe buffet at the MGM Grand is world famous? I am quite susceptible to buffets, but when I stayed at the MGM Grand, I do not recall any word about any sort of above average (for Vegas) buffet. - MSTCrow 12:09, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
- Not as good as the Bellagio, Paris, or Wynn ... but is very popular and crowded most days. Cool Disco Rex 19:56, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
I agree, the MGM buffet is no more notable than any other buffet in Vegas. The Wynn's is probable the most notable, considering its high price and the quality of the food. However, I changed the passage to be more general. -74.140.199.153 17:16, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

Europe
editAre these less common in Europe than the US? I know an Italian guy that was a little surprised that he could eat as much as he wants and only pay once.
- They were invented by the French. 57.135.233.22 (talk) 15:11, 15 August 2024 (UTC)
Desert Biking/Dessert Viking
editThis comparison seems a tad more of a joke than an actual piece of information. Remove? --Shrapnelwolf 00:14, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Criticism
editIs buffet a food service that usually causes more food being wasted? It is not too hard to imagine that it is the case in practice. If somebody could cite the sources for this form of (social?) criticism, it would be great.--Chibibrain (talk) 08:08, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
- You're the one with this hypothesis, why shouldn't you be the one to find the sources? 57.135.233.22 (talk) 15:12, 15 August 2024 (UTC)
Etiquette
editIt appears to be almost common opinion that it is bad etiquette not to finish the food on a plate. In the past, I heard that some restaurants charged a special fee when a customer repeatedly leaves a considerable amount of food unfinished on the previous plate before going for the next one. Someone needs to find sources on buffet etiquette for different societies and on actual practice.--Chibibrain (talk) 08:14, 7 December 2009 (UTC)

Plagiarism?
editThis site [2] seems to either have ripped WP contents wholesale, or vice versa. --User:Ketil —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.166.25.22 (talk) 10:04, 31 July 2010 (UTC)
Linguistic Factoid
editIt's an interesting factoid that these buffets are referred to as "Eat all you can" buffets in the Philippines... possibly else where. Maybe the two wordings are used interchangeably? I've only seen "all you can eat" throughout the US. Just some interesting trivia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.55.255.254 (talk) 05:17, 11 December 2010 (UTC)
All You Can Eat Menu as Buffet Removal
editI'm removing a line stating that there is a growing tendency to refer to a restaurant offering an all you can eat menu as a buffet even if the food is laid out on tables. It was tagged with [citation needed] 2.5 years ago. I've never heard of this and I couldn't find anything through google. If anyone has a reliable source please feel free to re-add the line and cite it.Greybyte (talk) 15:59, 11 November 2011 (UTC)
Formal or informal
editThe introduction states - probably correctly - that in the past buffet has "been considered an informal form of dining, less formal than table service". In recent years buffet meals are indeed increasingly popular among hosts of home dinner parties. However that is not contradictory, since home dinner parties are also informal.101.98.175.68 (talk) 03:49, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
